AGM battery charging with OEM converter?

Think my crappy batteries that came with my trailer are in need of replacement. Looking at getting some 100 ah AGM batteries. Any issues using the stock converter? I’m not up on this kind of stuff so any help is appreciated

The standard converter will handle AGM , but not Lithium.

My RV has a PD4060A. I contacted Progressive Dynamics and they told me it would charge AGM batteries. I installed two AGMs last year.

Not sure if I have a PD or not but I’m going to check

I'm looking into the AGM's as well though planning on moving to the 6v GC2 footprint. While I'd love to have some Lithium's those are still a bit more than I want to spend based on how we use the trailer. I've decided not to stick with the OEM WFCO converter as I don't feel like the 3-stage charging is all that effective. It didn't do a very good job on the 195RB and I have yet to see the one in our ORV go into bulk mode even after the batteries have been discharged a fair amount.

I'm going to swap out my stock converter for either a Progressive Dynamics or Boondocker model that includes charging profiles specifically for AGM, Gel and Lithium ( for when the prices drop some... ). In fact, shortly after we bought our ORV they started shipping new units with 4-stage Progressive Dynamics instead of the 3-stage WFCO.

For about $160 these units will swap out for the existing WFCO converter and leave everything else in the power center alone. There are only 5 wires to connect so very simple to do the swap. Figure out what model your current converter and check Best Converter to see if there is a Boondocker or Progressive upgrade kit available.

You should Tom. I called them for my ‘16 NP when I switched to the 1 Lithium battery & they said it was good for AGM & Lithium.

Edit: I think I wrote about it in your 377 mod thread.

Our stock (I’m guessing WFCO?) works ok for both lithium and AGM? Good to know

One more question...

Would one 100ah battery be sufficient to replace the two generic dealer batteries? I’m not running solar. Only need the power for the inverter to power the fridge

My AGM's didn't. I started with 2 and if I was traveling only 1 day they were fine. But if I had a 2nd day of travel they didn't charge enough overnight to last the 2nd full day of travel & I went to a 3rd AGM. Didn't have any problems after that.

BUT...I just remembered that I didn't know about the bulk charge button on the converter until I inquired about it when I purchased Lithium. If I had known to push the bulk charge button overnight I probably would have been fine. Just food for thought...

Were your batteries 100 ah? Also, where is this bulk charge button?

They were 90 AH. The bulk (actually, I think they called it "boost" mode) button is on the right side of the converter/electrical panel. It has a little green light that blinks next to it that tells you what mode it's in.

Thanks. I’m going to go check mine to see if it has the button as well

Interesting.. At least people don't have to make any changes/upgrades now.

Oh...they have a upgradeable model that doesn't require you to do anything! I just have to remember to manually hit the boost button when we get to a campground and have to travel further the next day! Lol! My biggest problem is that my memory SUCKS!
