Air Bags, Will they give me a smoother ride

I have a 2016 Ram 3500 CC Cummins DRW & Tow a 2017 355 MBQS. I live in Cincinnati, OH and take a couple of reasonably long trips a year with several local trips (100 miles or less) in-between a year. June 1st I am leaving for two weeks hitting South Dakota & Yellowstone. Looking for maintenance to-do's for the 5th wheel (wet bolt kit)

What about my truck, been thinking about air bags. Will they give me a better ride? Concerned more for camper, went to Disney last year and inside camper got really beat up. Light above sink broke & fell down onto the Island. I tow between 68 - 70.

Not sure about inside the camper, but I notice the difference in the truck if I don't put air in the airbags.

Have you considered something like this to calm things down in the trailer?

Made the trip from Cincy to WDW several times with our PINNACLE and never "bounced" anything loose cruising at 65. Air bags on the truck won't help the trailer.

Airbags will probably help the truck ride better, but if concerned about the bouncing inside the trailer, I would do the wet bolt kit and shocks on the 5er.

I have never seen that type of 5th wheel hitch before, I have a Curt Q20.

A couple of guys on another forum I frequent have their 5th wheel hitches and swear by them.

I've never used their 5th wheel products but did try one of the Air Safe receiver hitches when I had my old Airstream (I kept popping rivets). Anyway, the hitch seemed to be very high quality. I only used it a couple of times before I sold the Airstream and sold the Air Safe with it. But, I was impressed with what I saw in the limited time I tried it.

My 5'er came with the Morride CRE 3000 suspension & I have the wet bolt kit. Just waiting for warmer weather. I will go through the brakes and bearings at the same time. Will also replace the Goodyear's as well. What would be a good shock to replace with?


Truck handles weight of trailer fine, tows fine, just thought air bags would make fore a smoother ride in the camper.

Are you talking Goodyear tires here?

Hopefully not Goodyear Endurance trailer tires! Those have been getting good reviews from all that have them.

Yes I am talking about the Goodyear Tires & I do like them as well. They are getting a little worn for my liking. I will replace with the same tire and move the best of the 4 to spare duty, that way I have 2 spares.

Thanks for the clarification. Initially it seemed you might be replacing them just because they are Goodyears.

You kitchen is over the trailer axle area so if the trailer itself is getting beat up then blame the roads. Air bags on the truck won't help that. If your truck sits level(ish) when hooked up then no need for the bags.

I have S637's and they are very stiff and transfer a lot of road bumps into the trailer. Everything takes a beating if you're on the Interstates. I think I75 south out of Detroit should be considered offroad driving.

I have been happy with the Goodyear tires, I thing maybe they wore a little fast but no failures which I couldn't say with my old camper (287BHSW) two tire failures.

I am taking my 5'er to camping world for some warranty work in January I need a water leak fixed. I will most likely have the tires replaced then.

Yes, I75 is absolutely deplorable.

Don't know if its just the picture but your truck looks a little low on the back. Air bags would be good just to level it out if nothing else. I notice a big difference in the ride with air in my bags to.

What Goodyear’s are you replacing??

If you get airbags adjusted correctly they do help.....

Loved the ride on my 07 ram 2500 4wd regular cab truck after adding air bags. I had the wireless remote and could change the pressure on the fly. Big difference on that truck.

I'm buying a 2018 ram 3500 srw 4wd crew long bed Monday with the auto leveling air bag suspension on it.

Air bags will definitely help if you're close or over your gvw. On a 3500 the air bags will keep it off the overloads. You can get a rough ride when you're lighly touching the overloads.

The air bags take out that float feeling you get as well.

If the truck rides bad, that transfers into the trailer. So if you improve the truck ride you will improve the trailer ride. They are attached! Won't help the trailer suspension. May want to look into Morryde 4000 equalizers and shocks.

Hit the scales. You should know your weights and your clearance height. Factory specs are never correct.
