What setting on the Airxcel thermostat do I need for the gas furnace to automatically come on when the temperature drops below 40 degrees. I have a heat pump a/c unit.

If the temperature you have the heat pump set falls 5 degrees because the heat pump cannot sustain it then the gas furnace will automatically kick on.
