Andersen Hitch help
Hi All. So, I purchased an Andersen ultimate 5th wheel hitch to replace my Curt A16 slider hitch. Reason being is that I cannot get the Curt any lower and my Eagle HT is towing at least 3" nose high. My question is this. I have a MORryde rubber pin box and need to know if the pin box needs to be "pinned" to accommodate the Andersen ball? I know Andersen states that if you use a Rota-Flex pin box you have to buy their plates to "pin" the box to eliminate side to side and front to back movement or you can damage the Andersen Ball Hitch. Any suggestions/Rebuttal theory and or conjecture will be appreciated.

I have been using the Anderson hitch for about two years with the same pin box you have. No problems and I haven't done anything to the pin box.

A 16,000# 5th wheel with a 250? Wow! We have an 11,000# 5th wheel, and feel that it's as heavy as we want to go with our gas 250- with diesel it would be even less. Wow!

I’d be inclined to follow Anderson’s recommendation given the amount of testing they do in support of a non-traditional hitch design. Is it the hitch that has you nose high or the truck? Would moving the trailer axles be an option to leveling things?

The Andersen hitch ball is adjustable up and down. Just be careful of your P/U rails.

This is a question for Andersen. While you will get answers here, and most are helpful the "experts" need to give you direction and that would the tech at Andersen. I found them to me very knowledgeable and helpful.
There could be a lot riding on bad information.

I have to ask the obvious question if you are towing with an F-350: how much bed-rail clearance did you have when you were 3" nose-high, and are you going to maintain sufficient clearance if you set the Andersen low enough to ride level?

Colorado, Thanks. I did send Andersen an email last week. Still no reply. I don't want to install it and then damage it. I have the original pin box that I may reinstall. I am selling the Curt hitch and may do so with the MORryde pin box. I have all winter to ponder...LOL

Stingray, I am a good 3" nose high now that I upgraded to the F-350 from The F-150. I dropped the 5th wheel shackles in order to raise the ass end up a bit. But still have about 8 3/4" clearance between the truck side rails and 5ver overhang. I still feel comfortable if I drop that down to 5"

Cag, My exact sentiments. While everyone on the "Forum" is very helpful, I think that the Andersen Tech's need to answer this one. I'm surprised that no one else has come across this issue here. Thanks To all.

Call them, they will answer it every time I have called. I have the regular non 5th wheel hitch and called when setting up. Then called about a warranty issue and again to discuss then order the upgrade kit. Every time they were helpful and knowledgeable!

Guns, I had the same problem with my 2016 RAM 3500 and 2018 Jayco 28.5RSTS. I got rid of the Curt sliding hitch and went to the Anderson Ultimate hitch. I love the Anderson, but I had the same problem with the ride height of the 5er. I have the ball in the hitch at the lowest setting. But, to get the 5er to the proper ride height, I removed the bolts on the pin box and raised the pin box arm 2 holes. The 5er now rides correctly. I have not had any problems with clearance because I am careful when turning and backing. You will not have any problems either if you are alert and careful.
