Andersen Ultimate 5th Wheel Hitch

Thanks for the welcome and reply. If you don't mind me asking what are you towing with your andersen hitch. I am worried about the weight of the 377rlbh being that far back. Just got the extension today and i am planning on cutting down a horse stall mat 3/4" to fit under the hitch. We used to use the curt x5 and a eagle flip over hitch camper is to heavy for the hitch only rated at 15500 from what I can make out on the sticker. Have not weighed the camper yet it has washer dryer combo and generator. I would guess around 16000lbs planning on weighing it soon

I am towing a 29.5 BHDS, maybe 10k loaded. I used a fitness mat underneath the hitch, works pretty well. I wasn't too worried about the weight being back a little further, still pulls good and I am still well within my cargo carrying capacity.

I pull a Jayco Eagle HT 30.5 MBOK with a 2013 GMC HD 2500 and use the Andersen hitch. I reversed the adapter and that moved the trailer a little farther back for more cab clearance. I also installed a MorRyde pinbox to dampen the "chucking" on rough roads. It also allows the trailer to pivot or move sideways on uneven roads or driveways which reduces the twisting of the trailer frame. I'm happy with this set up and like being able to easily remove the hitch when I want my truck bed back.

We ditched Chuck at the last truck stop. Way less Chuck now! J/K!!! Take your typical old school 5th wheel hitch with jaws. The jaws open, you slide it on back into the king pin (click). On the road you've got a little bit of play in the jaws, so there's your "chucking". With the Andersen, all the weight rides on a hitch ball (ball & socket). Virtually no movement at all - thus no chucking. My Anderson does have safety chains. Really depends on which state you live in (or drive through) and what kind of day the Highway Patrol is having when you talk about it.

My last scale ticket showed 23640 gross. 5120 steer, 6840 drive and 11680 trailer axles. I use the Ultimate F/W in standard configuration.

In my case, the Andersen hitch did not remove the chucking motion over rough roads. Some rigs do it, some don't. It was terrible to a point that towing was a stressful, uncomfortable experience. The MorRyde pinbox really made a huge difference. It doesn't fix the problem but dampens it enough that I can live with it.

I think the MorRyde pin box is great at smoothing out the ride! I'm going to put Roadmaster shocks on our new FW when it comes in......I understand they really make a difference in the ride also.

I've towed my 5er with 3 different hitches.
1st was a beater Reese with jaws. It clanked and chucked.
2nd was a new B&W Patriot. It too chucked but was tight.
3rd was an Andersen. It towed exactly the same as the B&W.
After getting the B&W I installed a MR pin box. It helped to remove about 70% of the chucking. Mostly the less rougher roads. I still get it on rough roads.

An Andersen won't cure chucking. If you had chucking from a previous hitch and then went to an Andersen and the chucking went away, then the previous hitch was garbage.
Any of the premium 5th hitches will tow the same as the Andersen.
Also MR recommends a special base plate be added when using an Andersen to keep the plate from bending since the pin weight is cantilevered away from the pin.

Finally got time to run the truck and 5th wheel over the cat scales. 23180 gross, 11700 empty fifth wheel, 6700 drive axle and 4780 steer. Better than I thought, pulls great with the 4" offset truck does not look like it in the pic but sits level according to measurements to the top of the wheel well. I can jack knife the trailer 90° not that I want to do that hard on everything. Can't wait for or first trip.

I have the steel version, it takes less than 10 minutes to install, doesn’t tie up your bed when not in use, pulls great especially in windy conditions that we have here in ND. My father an old design engineer looked at it and said wow; why it’s all triangles or a pyramid design, which is the strongest engineering format. Displaces the pin weight out and around the bed and axle making again a strong solid purchase point. Plus it’s not that expensive compared to the others.

Didn’t get much squat and had the pin in the middle setting.
