Any last warnings before I buy Reese Goose Box?

My 377 arrives in a few weeks, but I won't be getting a new truck until later in 2018.

I currently have a Hidden Hitch gooseball hitch in my truck. I am comfortable hitching up a gooseball.

My current truck is on the edge of weight rating, so trying to avoid adding a couple hundred pounds to the pin weight with a fifth wheel hitch, and I'm not interested in installing rails on a truck I'm selling in several months anyway.

Was leaning towards the Andersen Ultimate, but the fact that the 377 seems to suffer from frame cracking at the bedroom slide, I don't want to complicate matters with a Lippert unapproved gooseball type hitch like the Andersen, should I suffer that failure, too. The Reese Goose Box is the only Lippert approved gooseball hitch.

Amazon has the 20k model on sale today, almost $100 off. 20k model confirmed to fit 377 pin box receiver.

Any reason not to pull the trigger?

Todd

Not exactly the answer to you question, but I towed our 377 the 1st year with my 2500 with B&W. I didn't have any problems and still don't. I now have a 3500 dually with the same hitch. I'm not saying it's the hitch, but (as of yet) I don't have the cracking on the bedroom slide (I'll go know on some wood now!). I'll of had my 377 for 2 years this coming February. Just giving you my experience. I don't see anything wrong with going the route you are looking at...especially if you save a few bucks!

Thanks for the insight. MadJoker on here has had the crack issue and runs with a B&W Companion in his F350, so I don't think it has to do with the hitch...

I plan on a 2018 F450, and if I had that now, I'd probably be purchasing a B&W for what it's worth.

How many miles you reckon you've pulled your 377?

How did your 2500 do? Guess I shouldn't be too worried about my 04 3500 diesel dually being able to cope if you were hauling with a 3/4 ton SRW!

I pulled probably 4-5k miles the 1st year with the 2500. The 2500 pulled the 377 without issue, but I was way over on payload and when the wind blew it wasn’t a pleasant towing experience.

I'll find out this winter the difference between a LB DRW & SB SRW

Got tired of a DRW as my daily driver.

DRW as a daily driver wouldn’t be fun! Luckily I have a company vehicle that I get to drive...so the DRW just sits in the garage waiting for it’s next tow.

I did it for 3 yrs put people think you are an a-hole when you take 4 parking spots. Always had long walks from the far reaches of the store parking lots. LOL

I drive my DRW everyday. Unlike money bags, Dan, I don’t have another vehicle to drive around town. [emoji23]

You do get used to driving it everywhere

I didn't mind it but the wide hips sometimes got in the way.

I prefer retirement to having a company vehicle though

Unfortunately I won’t know how I feel about this statement until I’m eligible to retire 6 1/2 years from now!

Wow

Why would you buy anything with a proven safety issue? I can't imagine how the hitch can cause this problem

+1 on the retirement vs. company vehicle but my dually was a company car until I sold out.
Its just something you get used too having a dually. Parking is just going out a little further but I need the walk.

I have the reese goose box and haven't had any issues. Just make sure you keep air in the bladder to help with the ride.

The way I understand it, the cracking by the slide is from the stress caused by the weight of the extended slide, not from towing. Besides, the frame has been beefed up now, so the cracking issue is gone.

What type of hidden gooseneck do you have? Is it the B&W turnover ball? If so, you can use the B&W companion hitch with it. Problem solved.

Unfortunately not. 2017.5 was when the taller frame arrived, and 2017.5 owners here have had the cracking issue.

There is one 2017.5 owner who even had the crack repaired per factory field procedure, and it has started to come back.

I corresponded directly with Jayco on this topic before ordering my 2018, and they told me they considered these incidents to be isolated and thus had no immediate plans to redesign the frame or framing in that area, but were "looking into it."

I realize that towing is probably not the root cause, but I don't want Jayco or Lippert to side-step this design defect, should it arise on my unit, because I used "an unapproved hitch"...

It's a Hidden Hitch. I checked and the shank length of the B&W is several inches longer than my ball, so their hitch would not work.

Also, that would add the 200 or so lbs on my axle that I'm trying to avoid.

I bought the Goose Box over the weekend.

Excellent. Does your air bladder lose air every time you tow, from bumps? People are reporting that.

Guess I needed to add a 12V air pump to my arsenal anyway...

No not while towing, but it will loose air over time. Will have to put air back in it if it had not moved for a couple months.
