Anyone Ever Replace a Side Skirt?

Hello ALL. It has been awhile since I posted on here. I have really missed all the good advice on the Jayco forum. We had a driver side blow out on our 2016 Pinnacle FLSA rolling through Kentucky last summer. We actually got lucky with minimal damage. The worse of the damage was to the skirt on the bedroom slideout. It just rolled it up for about 6 inches from the corner of the slide. I was curious if anyone has ever ordered the panel and changed it out themselves? I have ordered car fenders and swapped them out before. I have never done anything like that on an RV. I would appreciate any advice from someone who may have done this kind of repair before.

Never replaced ours - although the entire driver's side has to be replaced due to hail damage. Unfortunately Jayco does NOT properly pack the pieces and the largest piece for the front of the unit has been sent twice & both times damaged. Waiting for the third one to come in. Just a FYI.

That is good information. Is Jayco prompt in sending the parts? I’m tempted to see if mine can be rolled back out. Until I get underneath the slide I won’t know if there is a crease in the metal. It is very thin. I hope the third time is the charm for getting your panels without damage.

Not sure Jayco understands "prompt". Right now their excuse is "due to covid our shops have been working on reduced staff" or "due to covid our suppliers are behind" or "due to covid we can't answer our phones or email in a timely manner". Okay, get covid...totally understand the impact it has had but still not answering phones or emails is unacceptable. So no they are not prompt. And yes, very thin.

I just replaced J molding on my 2017 Whitehawk. Parts referred to it as a side skirt so you can look at the Whitewalk to see if its the same thing. The process was straight forward. I removed all the screws, pulled the skirt off and then put it back on. If you are doing this alone it helps to keep a plastic shim available. I used it, rather than a screw driver so it would not misshape the metal.

Skirting damage: Most of the time you're able to roll it out with a laminate roller with the skirting in place. Be sure to seal everything after for water intrusion.

J skirt

We had a tire blow out ,I watched a couple of you tube videos ,bought the body hammers at harbor supply ,painted with spray can bombs and probably would rate it as a B- JOB but like previous post was afraid of shipping problems.

This as all been great information and advice!

We have some weather moving in today. At first chance, I need to take some pics of the damage and assess my options from all the posts I got. I'm thinking I may first see if I can fix it with laminate roller that ALJO suggested. If that is not possible, I will look into the supplier that Summitstev found for J-Skirt parts. I had not thought of checking You-Tube for DIY on the J-Skirt repair. Great idea Tryintoretire!

I will need a few other parts. There is (or was) a brace that went from the frame to rear of the fender mold that was knocked out. I don't have a tire rub, but I'm sure this brace is meant to hold the skirt away from the tire when turning or backing up in tight spaces. At some point, I would like to replace the fender mold. I have a small crack in the molding over forward tire. It is not noticeable unless you are looking for it so it is something I can do later. I will post some pics of damage and then keep you posted on the progress.

Thanks again for all the great advise!

Mine was damaged in a blowout years ago. My dealer ordered the parts and subbed it out to a local rv repair that specialized in that kind of work.

It took them about a 4 hours to complete the repair. The parts took a few weeks to come in. They had to replace the bottom side from the door back and it was 2 pieces of metal, some blocking. They were able to reuse the brackets.
