Anyone here runing Andersen AUH in a 6.5’ bed?

So the coach I am considering has the revolution hitch; but I have little interest in putting a “real” fifth wheel hitch in my truck to take advantage of the revolution swivel. The Andersen hitch is not capable of using that feature.
I would much rather use the B&W flipover ball and the Andersen AUH, it is lighter, and I would not have to tear up my bed rug, keep more of my payload, etc.
A “real hitch” is going to weigh 150+ pounds. It will need to have the “industry standard” rails installed (killing my bedrug!). Not sure what the B&W flipover weighs, but that AUH is less than 40.
My tow vehicle is a F150 HDPP w/ 2452 payload, 11600 5th wheel tow capacity.

I know with the Andersen setup, I will need to be careful on tight turns, particularly backing. But I read many folks report zero issues with them.

Should I just bite the bullet and remove the bolts of the revolution hitch and use it like it’s designed for?

It has a couple mounting option that will get a bit more clearance, and the front cap design will make a difference. I towed my brother’s rig with it without issues, but never had to make anything tighter than a right hand turn.

Be careful with weights. An 11600 fiver will have a hitch weight in the 2300-2900lb range, and even at the low end you are maxing out that truck.

Was that a 6.5’ bed?
The unit I am considering is a 24.5 CKTS, pin weight (empty) of 1250 or so, so should be reasonable. Leaves me 1000 pounds for gear, me, wife, dog, and hitch. At least it’s advertised as that. This one has auto level, so prolly a little heavier.

You won't want to do that with the Andersen. Mine is bolted in place.

Thanks, I get that, as I wrote in the OP. It’s either Andersen and a non turning box, or conventional hitch with the turning box. Just that the Andersen will save me approximately 100 lbs or so.

Yes it’s my megacab.

We tow our 30.5MBOH with an AUH in our 6.5' F250 bed and I've had absolutely no turning issues. Have had it at 90 degrees (although 90 is more than you'd generally need) just to see how far it would go and still had a few inches to spare. Really like being able to easily remove it to reclaim my bed for other purposes.

But to be clear, your revolution is being used as conventional hitch, correct?

Thanks, I will likely just get the AUH.

You are correct.

I actually just swapped to the Morryde Orbital rubber pinbox. Did the first trip last night. Big difference. If the trailer you are looking at has the Revolution from the factory, just know you have no additional options other than the Morryde Orbital without making frame mods. I also use the Morryde in a locked setup. Note the Morryde is taller. I had to drop the AUH ball to the lowest position. The turret will rotate completely inside the bed. I had to flip the AUH receiver mount to the rear of the box as the Morryde is longer than the Revolution.

If you have a choice, I would strongly recommend the Morryde. It’s much cheaper to get it from the factory than buy it afterward. I got a smoking deal at about $950.

No clearance issues with. either mine. I even rotated the Andersen adapter 180 to get more pin box to side rail clearance. No issues with clearance to the cab at all.

I use the AUH with my set up, 6.5 foot bed with a 355MBQS and I have no turning issues, I can go 90 degrees, but try to avoid that as much as possible..

That settles it, I am definitely getting the AUH.
Sucks, one of the trailers that is on the short list has the revolution king pin, I just won’t be using that feature. Oh well.
