Anyone using the Jayco supplied Solar hookup?

Like to know if anyone is using the Jayco supplied solar wiring to charge your battery? If so what solar panels are you using? What battery are you using? Has it been successful?

I have 3 150 solar panels (Go Power Solar brand) installed on the roof of my trailer. This is sufficient enough to keep the batteries charged while running my residential refrigerator. Additionally we are able to use lights at night, although we are conservative about the use.

The panels are wired into the system using the wiring which came installed in the trailer. My previous trailer had the same setup using 3 Zamp panels. Seemed to work just as well.

Solar Hook Ups

Yes in our 16 Eagle 321RSTS the go pro hook up for are camper was limited to 300 watts of panels. According to Go Pro.The leads were reversed from Jayco factory.Might want check Polarity easy check. Its been a year since we did install. We have one 275 watt 60 cell panel a 30 amp Blue Sky MPPT controller and a battery temp sensor. Best mod we ever did, no longer worry about batteries being at full charge. Also cut battery water usage to almost nil.The controller I think is the secret and the MPPT is well worth the money ! Thanks

We have not had any problems with the additional power. I will have to get back to you on the controller brand. Paperwork is in the trailer which is at the dealership.

Our cost for the package with installation was about $2700.00. I don't know if this is high, low, or what. We didn't shop around since we included it with the purchase of the trailer. This was similar in amount to the Zamp package we had on our previous trailer.

I used the included wiring, but spliced into it and put the controller in the basement MUCH closer to the batteries than in the hallway of the camper where Jayco wants you to install it. You want the charge controller as close to the batteries as you can. The run from the panels is higher voltage, so not as much of a concern.

I was able to get 2 100 Watt panels for $90 a piece, and did a PWM controller. Not as much $$$ as the MPPT, and I may lose a little efficiency in certain circumstances, but it works well.8 gauge from the roof to the controller, and the same for the 4 feet to the batteries. I also have a 100 watt portable on 8 gauge wire. (We sometimes park where the RV is in the shade, and the portable gets me 4-5 amps of charge when the roof is shaded.) 300 watts total.

Whole system cost around $500 by installing myself and catching the panels and controller on sales. (Renogy did a great Black Friday sale on the portable panel with the Adventurer controller and 40' of 8 gauge wire.)
