Anyplace to rent a tow vehicle?
Long story short, our current towing situation is currently out of commission and may be permanently. We have 4 weekend trips coming up that we don't want to have to miss out on and were wondering if anyone knows of somewhere that might rent a truck with a fifth wheel setup? We may end up having to get a designated dually tow vehicle eventually due to weight restrictions on my husband's truck, but we are trying to weigh all options first.

Most rental agencies don't want you towing with their rentals, especially the "retail" ones. But then you wouldn't be able to rent a capable truck from most of them anyway.
Most of the agencies that would rent a capable tow vehicle only rent to commercial clients. They do long-term rental contracts on multiple units up to and including "fleets". Some of them may rent to private individuals, but I would imagine those are few and far between. Enterprise has a commercial truck division and they do in fact rent heavy duty trucks/pickups (like what you would need to tow a 5er), but I'm pretty sure they won't rent one truck to an individual to use for personal use. It might not hurt to ask though.

UHaul trucks (Cargo van) all have hitches for bumper pull, but no brake controllers. They rent pick up trucks too, but no controller or provision for the 5th wheel hitch. Don't like the agency, but they could do in a pinch for someone who with a standard TT, sorry doesn't help for a 5er.

What about the companies that move RV's from the factory to the dealers?
Could you contract their services?
What about companies that move RV's to/from seasonal sites?

About a year ago our truck was in the shop due to an accident, so the insurance company paid for a rental. I talked to the rental company about upgrading to a pickup because we needed to move the trailer, but I drove by the rental place and saw that all of their pickups had the trailer hitches removed. We just put off moving the trailer until we got the truck back.

You could have a company tow it to the site, if it happens to be he same place and pick it up at the end. That way you could bring the smaller car/suv/whatever instead and enjoy better gas mileage/driving/whatever.
Or just bite the bullet and buy a new truck...

My question is this: if you're going to rent a 5er or TT, so the renters ever provide a tow vehicle as well? Or is that up to the renter?

Prior to getting my tow vehicle I rented Ford f250s and Dodge Ram 2500s to pull my 26BH on vacation. Myrtle Beach, Outer Banks twice. I rented from Enterprise and they knew exactly what I was towing. Matter of fact twice the trucks were brand new, still had plastic on the floors and seats.

Penske and Ryder will rent you trucks on a daily rate. The issue is the only ones they have with 5th wheels are going to have airbrakes and require a CDL.

You can use uShip.com. kinda like eBay but for shipping. You specify the pickup and delivery date on both ends and drivers will bid until you accept a rate. We use to deliver 5ers on weekends but they undercut each other so bad the profit disappeared. Good news for the shipper is the rates are lower than ever.
