Auto Awning

We have an auto awning on our 31.5 RLDS and need to know if I can adust pitch? It does not have any pin adjustment on the long arm. Do we have to watch the weather channel and bring it in any time it looks like rain? It is completely flat pitch when open. Will the shock actuators dump the rain or do they only help in a windy setting? Thanks again for all of the help. We had a Jayco 293 before with a manual awning that worked great for 11 years.

Hi Seann
Thanks for the comeback. I looked at the carefree site and it shows pitch position pins on the Eclipse awning but we have none on ours. I guess we will just stay glued to the weather channel when ever we head out on a day trip away from home.

They will dump for sure. I was scared of them filling up at first, but they work very well. They will dump to the low side so just make sure to stand clear of that area (don't ask me how I know).

Hi Glazier
Thanks for the update. I wonder why the longer arms on our units did not include the adjustable pins like on the eclipse models?

I don't know why Jayco used only the flat pitched awnings on so many units. They now offer the adjustable pitch (Jayco), you can up grade to the adjustable pitch arms, from carefree. To me the cleaning is the biggest hassel of the flat pitch models.

I hate to say this, but the upgrade from Carefree is outrageously expensive.

Cleaning a pitched one is a PITA too.

We have mixed feelings about our electric awning. It is easy for my wife to put up incase I am gone but I don't think it would be good to tie it down and use a sun/wind screen. Can I roll it up with the screen attached? It will take a ladder to put it on.

Our 'flat pitched' awning basically SUCKS! It is nice to put it out in seconds, but, with no pitch it doesn't shade from sun well. We did add one of those shades you can slide into the slot at the end of the awning and that helps a lot. These flat pitch awnings are *very* sensitive to even a milder breeze. We have seen a slight gust of wind come through and flip the rear part of the awning up over the roof on another poor fellows tt They were lucky as they were able to pull it back down and it seemed to still work ok.

The flat pitched awning on the newer Jayco's do have the dump feature. It works on ours. One thing that is nice to know is that Camping World will add the dump feature to your electric flat pitch awning if your Carefree didn't come with it (you'd have to check to see if they still provide this free).
