Awning 1 $20 BMPRO Repair

As a conclusion to my other post that awning 1 won’t retract on a 2020 Pinnacle 37MDQS; I was successful in restoring full functionality with $20 of parts from Amazon avoiding the need to spend $1000 on an new BMPRO node from the Jayco dealer (until something else fails!) I’d be happy to send the circuit diagram and instructions to anybody that wants it.

I’m working on a further refinements of my external circuit. I’ll post it next week for folks to try at their own risk. Right now awning 1 is extending and retracting normally with one SPDT relay. However a second normally closed needed to lift the ground on the awning 1 ground while operation got awning 2.

For all that asked, the attached circuit is provided Implement at your own risk. Some basic electronic circuit knowledge and a good back while cramped in the basement, are needed!

When Awning 1 on my 2020 Pinnacle 37MDQS failed to retract, it was diagnosed by phone support at BMPRO to be a non-serviceable defective relay inside the BMPRO Node in the basement. Jayco dealer wanted about $1000 for a new Node board. I worked out this external patch for about $30 for two SPDT relays and some connectors off Amazon. The relays are typically used to add extra lights on a car; so are 30Amp capable.

The fault symptom was the top left pin Ch7+ goes to 12 Volts when retract is selected, and not as should be, at 0 Volts. The first external SPDT relay provides the correct polarity reversal to retract awning 1. The second relay closes when operating Awning 2 and interrupts the ground to Relay 1. At first, with just relay 1, Awning 2 operation, in either direction, caused Awning 1 to retract!

It’s a little bit of work to install this patch but at lot simpler than replacing the whole node. And a lot cheaper at $30 versus $1000.

Thanks for this. I am now experiencing the same issue in my 2021 357MDOK camper, while at a campsite. For now, I've moved the main awning (1) to the Awning 2 terminals and have awning 2 disabled until I either perform this fix, or something else. Thank you, this helped me troubleshoot my issue, which is no reverse polarity when hitting retract on Awning 1.

I'd like to see the insides of a node and see if it really is non-serviceable.....

I'd like the same info as for some reason everything worked fine for a week a month ago and now while prepping for an upcoming trip awning 1 won't extend but will retract. I can hear the retract relay clicking but nothing for the extend. And can hear both relays clicking for awing 2.

So my plan for a temporary fix is a lot simpler then above. I am going to run both negatives from awning 1 and 2 into awning 2 on the bmpro node. I will then run a 12v remote switch common lead into the other awning 2 connector on the node. I will then run awning 1 positive to the NC side of the remote switch, and awning 2 positive to the NO side of the remote switch. This give me the option of still using my phone app as well as the bmpro tablet and not having to run an external switch up into the cabinet or somewhere else. The 12v remote switch comes with 2 wireless controllers so one will go in the basement and the other will go inside the 5th wheel and the cost of the 12v remote switch was $20cdn on amazon.

Now come the winter when the trailer is in storage I'm going to pull the node and open it up and see if I can find a model number of the relay and see about replacing it. I've read on other google searches that bmpro has updated the node so I may look at finding a better relay. The one they originally could have two low of a amp rating and just burns out the relay or could just be a cheap relay period.

What we should all do that have been having this issue is e-mail bomb bmpro and tell them they need to step up to the plate and fix this issue or at least give us a hell of discount on an updated unit since they new there was an issue.

When it's broke and I see "NO USER SERVICEABLE PARTS" I take that as a challenge! Since I have more time than money (hopefully!) I will often disassemble and see if this user CAN service it. Recently had a LG 50" TV go "POP" and... nothing, literally 1 month after warranty expired. DW told me "we are TV shopping today". OK, $400+ for a new TV. When I got time to look it over the dead TV I found the power supply board failed. $100 plus for a board, a tech will swap out a board rather than take the time to troubleshoot it. Found a .02 cent capacitor on the supply board shorted and open. Now I have a nice TV in the man cave. I feel we throw away way too much and I don't like being squeezed to pay for replacing something purchased that fails way too soon and might be repairable. I'm all for the "Right to Repair".

I completely agree which is why I want to open it up and try to service it myself. What's the worst that can happen. If I fix it then I don't have to buy another one, if I don't and want it to function properly then I have to buy a new node or if I screw it up trying to fix it then I still have to buy a new node. I'll make sure I take pictures when I get it open and show the issues and hopefully fixes.

Had the same thing happen to me today on my 2020 North Point 375 BHFS. Awning was stuck in the extended position and would not retract. After packing up and trying to leave the campground for three hours, I took the set screws off the drive motor and manually retracted it. I think I’m gonna try the node as you guys were talking about earlier. I’ve already replaced hydraulic arms and the BM pro main computer, so far, I’ve not been a big fan of BM Pro quality.

It has been brought up before, you would have to change the model # in the app settings to one that has three awnings to enable it in the app? Does Jayco have any models like that? Also, the serial number would have to be entered.

Maybe, if you can get those stars to align.
