Awning Jerks Moving In And Out

The number one awning on my 2016 Pinnacle works smooth as it should. The number two smaller awning has a small jerking and is noisy when moving in and out. Is there a fix for this or is it just something to live with? I tried a search but could not come up with anything or was not using the right word combination.

Spray the cylinders and track with silicone lube.

Grumpy: Thanks for your suggestion. I had a neighbor run the awning in and out so I could watch it on the ground. I used spray on the items you suggested and it helped a little bit. In watching I noticed the head assembly containing the motor was loose. In further checking found the large screw that holds the head assembly to the bar was loose. After I tightened it some more of the jerking motion went away. The cause seems to be in the motor head assembly so I am going to take the cover off and check it out. It got too hot to continue so postponed until a later time. If I find anything I will report it here as a follow up. Thanks

There was a recall of the gas struts on the awnings as the original struts had too much pressure and would cause the jerking you are describing. I called Carefree with my awning serial #'s and they sent me replacements @ no charge. I changed them myself but it isn't real easy to do. You may want to call Carefree and see if they will send new ones.

Fingerlakes: I think you have identified the real problem. I will get a hold of Carefree tomorrow with awning serial number, purchase date, etc. We purchased the unit new in May of 2017 but I will also send them the original build date. I appreciate your taking the time to answer my inquiry. Thanks again. Don

Left side tube, may have to bump it in/out slightly to see it.
