Awnings on port side

Most 5W's I've seen, have an awning on the front portion of the 5W. It's usually not long and it's limited on extended (open) length because of the short leg that is mounted on the bedroom section, resultin in an open cover of 5ft.
Question: Is it possible to install an awning on the rear port side slide. Mainly to have another place to sit in a shade or cover outdoor stuff in light rain.

Are you speaking of mounting on the port slide itself, or in front of it on the trailer side wall ? We have two slides on the port side, so there wouldn't be room between, and I don't like the idea of mounting on the slide itself because of the extra weight not designed for. But if we only had one side in the rear, I don't see why an additional awning couldn't be mounted on the side wall, same as on the starboard side. The one negative thing to consider is - would there be room on most campsites for awnings on both sides of the trailer. Many I have been to just barely have room on the starboard side when the port side is right up near the pedestal and the limit of the site. Just my thoughts . . . .

Correction, meant starboard side. Mounting awning on rear slide which is about 10' wide. No room to mount brackets on side wall straddling the slide.

OK, sounds like you mean a second awning on the starboard side at the rear, mounted on the slide itself. Again I would be very hesitant about mounting on the slide. First, there is the extra weight, which the slide is not designed to carry, so that might cause alignment problems. Second, you would have to drill holes in the slide, and its structure is probably not as strong as the top body stringer that awnings are usually attached to (near the roof line). Third, if you are still under warranty, that would probably void it. Personally, I just wouldn't want to risk it for a little extra shade. I would just put up a tent or something like it if more undercover area was needed. JMHO

A friend recently ordered a Jayco Pinnacle with a factory installed patio awning on the slideout.

I think it's a great idea.

I agree, it's a good idea, PROVIDED slideout is designed for it, that is, reinforced at mounting points, and mechanically designed to support the extra weight. JMHO

For those not familiar with boat/trailer terminology.

Only problem with that is that boats are not generally designed for travel on roads, unless they are being transported. Anyone familiar with them uses port and starboard terminology. Except landlubbers, that is. And when did you last see a boat that needed a convertEr ?

We are discussing trailers, not boats.

If we are discussing trailers, not boats, why did you post a boat in your previous message ?? And converters in trailers generally convert AC current to DC current, not salt water to fresh water. At least that's the way I understand it.

You must be lacking a good sense of humor.
It was posted as PUN. The OP was using boat terminology on a subject of trailers. It's like using trailer terminology on a subject of boats. Don't you think it would be humorous, to use this on a boat forum?

You know, Mike/Chipper, I definitely do have a sense of humor, but the tone of your posts came across to me as nitpicky and argumentative. I joined JOF to learn some things, perhaps help a few others from my experience, and to have a good time just chatting. I definitely do not want to argue. My response to the original thread used the same terminology (starboard and port) as the thread starter, just for continuity. I saw no need on your part to correct us, as that did not enhance the subject of the thread. If I misinterpreted your comments, then I'm sorry. But based on other previous posts from you on other subjects, it just seemed like you were trying to put both of us down, and ridicule our terminology unnecessarily.

At this point, let's just forget this happened, and both of us try to be a little more tolerant in the future. The other members of JOF deserve it.

Don't be sorry, Boozecamp. Wasn't your fault. Just a little misunderstanding took place between two of us. Over now. Let's get on with life, and keep on camping. Please do not hesitate to post more questions. Ahoy, yourself !
