Back-up Camera

Does anybody know of a way or maybe already did , tie a back-up camera from your truck to a back-up camera on there 5th wheel ? So you don't have to have a second monitor in the cab . Any thoughts ?

Interesting that you ask! We have just consulted with a professional AV installer, who'd suggested similar option to us. What he said he could do was tie the back-up camera at the back of the rig to our existing truck Nav/back-up camera screen. We didn't want to do that, as we would have to switch back and forth between the Nav screen and the b/u camera screen. Too cumbersome! And, this option also involves running wires from the rear to the front of the fifth wheel, which we didn't want him to do. So, we are going with the Voyager wireless system, instead.

Not yet, but I did something similar. I have a headache rack in the bed and during the camping months, I run without a tailgate. I wanted to keep the backup camera, so I bought a $20 back up camera off Amazon and a plug from the Ford Dealer that matches the truck plug that the factory tail gate camera attaches to. When I pull my tailgate, I plug in my secondary camera.

I have been contemplating this same arrangement for the trailer. I would just need another camera, another plug and some wire to fit in between them. Would likely just run it down the frame rail on the trailer to the truck.

Well that's a good idea Cdash , does it matter what kind of camera you get ? Like does it have be a Ford or Chevy camera or would any old camera work ? I don't mind running a wire down the frame and making a plug for the back of the truck . That would have to be a lot cheaper than a wireless system .

RearViewSafety has a package with monitor and 2 cams made for trailers. I have had their system on my truck for over 3 years now..

I think all cameras work the same. Essentially they use 4 wires. Unless you get lucky in a junkyard, a OEM camera is $$$$$$.

Quality isn't as good as the Ford tailgate camera, but I find it to be good enough and it suites my needs.
