Backup Camera "ready"

Today I found a rocker switch on the inside wall of the battery compartment. Big sticker next to it describing its camera ready. Great!!!!

Anyone have a clue as to where this power wire may be hiding?

Seriously....They placed a power switch in the battery compartment?

I don't believe that our 37MDQS has a "switch" to turn that feature on and off, but we do have the feature.

The backup camera is prewired to a shark fin looking black box on the back of the unit. You buy the camera, take the cover off, and install your camera using the wire(s) that are back there.

The camera is powered off of the clearance lights circuit...

To add to what Cadman said, if you have a newer truck, it may not power the camera due to load programing of the alternator. A truck with all LEDs is even more likely to be set up like this. My truck would power the camera, but not enough to send the signal to the truck. I ended up running a separate wire to a switch that feeds off the camper's 12v. I just toggle it on and off as needed. The switch is hidden in a cabinet on the inside from where the camera mounts. Works like a charm!

Good piece of info there!!

I've heard of people with 2020+ GM's having this issue, but we never have had that issue. It's weird that some have it and some don't, even in the same brand...

The early HT's had the camera switch as you found. The early full Eagles has the switch in the docking station. Later trailers run off the running light circuit. Later trailers had the option of adding a switched camera circuit in the bedroom to use as a security camera.

That's what happened to me. I had a 2020 High Country and it worked fine, then got the 2021 Denali and had to put the switch in. I thought the camera had messed up at first until I got to reading about it and find out what was going on.

I mount the rear view monitor on the rearview mirror when driving. The camera, up until now was attached to inside the rear window frame. Power was spliced from an interior light.

On this new trailer, where might I expect to find the other (camera) power end? Nothing labeled in the up high rear compartments, or below the rear window. I've looked for instruction manuals or tech data that cover this wiring.

Thanks

I'd call the dealer first but the wire you seek might be bundled up under the rear center marker light.

Anyone think that power wire is stuffed behind the center running light?

It doesn't appear that you have the camera prep on your Jayco. I would be where you have shown, with the Furrion housing in place for the camera.

2017 units didn't have that. They just had the wiring and switch in place. The wiring should be behind the center ICC light. Later units that were prep had a camera mount.

Interesting. Kind of the first steps into the camera prep option, it seems.

Was done that way for a few years across most manufacturers. Then they switched over with the mount in place if prepped. Jayco did that around 2018 or 2019. My 2017 Eagle 293rkds was ordered with the camera option. They used Voyager brand. Total junk.

Thanks Earl. I'll dig for the orange wire in the morning.

You nailed it

I'm guessing the LED black wire is where I can splice for a ground.
