For mine.. I have a transmitter that is a momentary type. As long as the upfitter switch in the truck is on.. the transmitter will transmit.
I believe Earl’s is a hand held small remote. Push on, push off.
I went my way because the upfitter switches are already there, and I would lose a remote.

The receiver is at the front of the trailer and when it gets the signal from the transmitter, it sends 12v (trailer battery voltage) to a bosch style 12v relay that turns the lights on.
Then I have a switch, I mounted in the level up controller compartment, that is simply wired in parallel to the relay so I can turn the lights on when ever I want.

If you want an actual “diagram” I could scribble one out..
If Mustang Don is reading this post... my wiring diagrams are nowhere near as advanced as his!

Please forgive my ignorance, but why use a relay instead of a switch?

It’s wireless.
I flip the switch in the truck and it wirelessly turns the relay (that is connected to the lights) on/off when backing up.
But there is ALSO a regular switch at the trailer to turn the relay on/off so I don’t have to go to the truck.
The lights draw too many amps to be connected directly to the wireless receiver itself.

What wireless unit did you use?

10 bucks from China.
It will transmit from 2 truck lengths, under the hood of my truck, to the receiver by the front landing gear.
