Bad Gas Quick-Connect

Hello all. Was wondering if those LP quick connects go bad? My one in the middle that connects to the Capital Grill which I no longer use is not working now. It has worked for the past two years but yesterday would not fire up my grill. All other gas connections are working, including the grill connect at the rear bumper. Do these things go bad. If I can replace it is it hard to replace?

Ours have on/off inline valves right at the disconnect, it looks like yours doesn't, could it be farther up the line near the tanks and possibly got turned off? I would think that individual on/off valves for each line would be standard but who knows?

The one by the back bumper has one but the middle one does not have one. Has worked fine for two years now nothing.

I suppose one could go bad over time, but I've never experienced that. You mentioned it doesn't have a shut off valve on it, like the rear one. That makes me wonder if connecting your propane hose to it causes enough of a pressure drop in the system to activate the excess flow valve on the tank. That would require you to shut the tank off for a short time, to reset that valve, then open the tank again very slowly, with your propane hose still connected in the quick connect.

Just a thought that crossed my mind.

No more of a flow than with the rear one. When I connect it, everything is off. Then I just turn it on to light it, like the other one. That's why I threw it out there. I can't see how it would've gone bad. There's nothing to it. Tried lighting the Capital grill and my Weber. No go.

Can you hear gas flowing when you connect your grill and turn a burner on? I guess anything can go bad but there is not much to the connector. You may want to try dabbing a little bit of lubricant on both the collar that pulls back and the male part of the hose you are connecting to the coupler.

All gas quick connects should have a gas valve as this valve will prevent connection under pressure. The quick connect you can clean with air air and by turning it.

I had to replace one on the travel trailer we had before we got our fifth wheel. They definitely go bad, they are in a pretty exposed/dirty position. It’s been several years but my recollection was it was a very easy replacement.

Simple test. Loosen the fitting, and have someone turn, on the gas for a few seconds.

No smoking...

No gas sound or smell. Tried two different grills. It does not have a valve like the back one does. But if I replace it the new one will have one.

Thanks for the responses. I'll just replace it and see what happens.

I replaced one on a friends rig last year. It looked ok but would not operate as designed. I replaced it and all was good. He did tell me that he often left the rubber cover off of it.
