Bathroom Fan replacement wont fit 28.5 RSTS

We were going to replace the loud inefficient OEM bathroom fan in our 28.5 RSTS. The inside "garnish" trim measures 8.5 inches high/deep when I take it down. The Maxxair 6401 fan I bought only comes with a 6 inch deep inside trim garnish. It doesn't appear you can use the existing garnish trim because the corners are not square but have little indents in them. I called our dealer parts shop and their only replacement fan garnish "boxes" are also only 6 inches high, and that is all I can find online as well. Surely others must have successfully installed a replacement fan, but what to do about the big 8.5 inch tall/deep garnish box in the ceiling??

I have been looking in to replacing my OEM fan as well and read several posts on this forum saying the new trim piece was to short. They reused the original trim piece by cutting a small slit the top corners. They said this allowed it to fit the new fan.

Contact maxxair and see if they offer a deeper trim piece.

Anyone else have any more info on this? The fan installed in my 2018 28.5 RSTS is loud and annoying. Interestingly is has a unique 1/4 turn open and close system that I can't see to find any information on, I'd love to buy an insert and keep using the design. Does anyone know who the manufacturer is?

trim

If you can't make the old one work, trim it out with pvc-type trim from home Depot. Looks like shiny painted wood.

Those are super easy to install. Bonus is no outside changes made.

Replaced our oem bathroom fan with a Fantastic Fan and had to use the original trim inside to finish it up. Installed smoothly and looks fine.

Your old one should easily fit after a little trimming. I installed a MaxxAire 7500 and I had to use the old trim, just notched out each corner and trimmed length on all four sides just a little with some strong scissors. Looks new.

This is the fan in question, if you look at the open and close system, its 1/4 turn on the knob and the black doors open and close against the holes in the top piece. If I use an insert like the vortex I believe I'll lose the ability to close it.

I also looked at the Maxx air and I think it will totally work, but the price is eye watering right now. Thanks Covid...

Correct, the MaxxAire 7500 was not cheap. But it comes with a neat remote control!!!!!

If you replace it with a Vortex, you'll have to put a Camco like vent cover over it. I don't think Vortex comes with its' own cover. That entire fan you have will come out.
