Batteries

Wish Jayco used a s sliding tray for the batteries.

Guess I have to unhook and remove to check water levels in them.

That sounds like a mod waiting to happen.

Not if you go with AGM batteries.

There are some posts by members that made and installed sliding trays. You may want to search the forum and locate them

Thanks Mustang.....

I will have to check it out. I may do like Klassic and remove the top tray.

Right now just have the two 12 volts, but hate that can't check water level.

My old MS had a sliding tray I should have kept...............

I put a 1/16" piece of abs plastic over the bottom steel slats of the battery compartment and drilled 1 1/2" holes along one side and siliconed screen on the bottom side of the holes.
My my front compartment door has a vent in it from the factory so it is venting up from the bottom holes through the door vent.
The plastic bottom also stopped the narrow Trojans from falling sideways in the big gaps of the slats.

It's funny this thread popped up because I was just at the dealer looking at the large gaggle of 2017 NorthPoints and Pinnacles that my dealer has. I was checking out the new improved battery compartment that Jayco has put in the 2017's. I'm a little ticked that someone at Jayco even thought of putting in the compartment we have in the 2016's. It can hold six batteries, sure, but you can't ever check the water. Also you can't use 6- 6volts because they are too tall with shelf installed.
I had to cut out my shelf to get my 2 6 volts in. It's REALLY hard to check the water.
Now I want 2 more 6volts and I have no where to put them, because that compartment is useless.
But wait! Have a look at the 2017 battery compartment. That's better.
I guess they fired the genius that came up with the 2016 design.
I'll post a picture of the new style later.

Back to my first thought above.
When I was driving out of the dealers lot I noticed that none of the 10 Pinnacles, 1 Designer, or 10 NorthPoints (all build dates after mine) have the vent in the door for venting the battery compartment. I guess they ditched that idea after the first month of production back in 2105.

Here's a picture of what I did. It's hard to tell in the picture what's going on.
The front batteries cover half the hole because of poor measurements. The back hole isn't covered.

That response was more directed at your other thread about keeping rodents out.

Klassic my Pinnacle has the slots like you are talking about, where the batteries can slip in them.
That's the reason I'm going to put something in there.
My old fifth wheel had some vents in the door for the batteries, think I'm going to close of the bottom like you did and put vents in the door.

The battery shelf in mine is not installed straight, going to remove it also and hopefully be able to check water level much easier.

Was even thinking to maybe someday put two more batteries to the left of the battery storage compartment, those would be easy to keep CORRECT water level in.

On my '14 there were two 12v batteries stacked in a side compartment. I took those out and put 4 6v AGM's in the generator bay as I don't have a fixed genny. I also removed the fuel tank that was part of the gen prep and put a flor in there so I can store tools in there.

I was thinking of using my storage for more batteries, but I don't want to give up any of my front storage. In the spring I think I'll take out my 2 Trojan T-105's at 220ah and install two larger (taller) 6volts at 428ah. They are heavy, but they will fit without any modifications.

There's a pic in my mods thread: http://www.jaycoowners.com/forums/f3...ods-40138.html

I used baltic birch ply to build a box that I screwed to the floor of the front compartment. Perimeter is 3/4" (or whatever metric equiv is) and then 1/2" between the batteries and for the floor of the box. The 12v batteries used to be stacked in a side access compartment. It's empty now.

I find that I have plenty of storage in my trailer for two of us. I use the section that used to hold the gen fuel tank for my tools. I put a floor into it. My basement has plenty of space for all the non-inside stuff. I travel with the bikes mounted in there too, plus BBQ, power cords, hoses, totes, chairs, etc. My portable 2kw genny rides in the truck box.
