Battery for Jayco Fifth wheel

I am thinking of getting a second battery for my HT 29.5. Any suggestions on where to get it and how to ensure it matches the current battery for parllel connection. I have only one battery, and do not know if most people have more than one. I saw some RV batteries at Sams club but did not see amphours on them.

What is the battery MFR, Ah Rating on the battery, how old is the existing battery, has it ever been discharged below 10.5Volts? Do you have room for 2 batteries?

It is an exide battery, 160 minutes reserve capacity, 7ep amps marine cranking amps, part 27MDPST. Yes I do have a space for another battery, and Jayco supplied extra cables. It is only about 6 months old, and was discharged one time when I left the light on in the RV for a week.

There have been dozens of recent threads about batteries that cover all of your questions. Search "batteries" and enjoy the reading.

The short answer is replace the one you have with 2 6v cart batteries and keep the oem [not true deep cycle] charged in your garage to be used to jump anything that needs jumped or for back-up on a boondocking outing.

More questions:
- Do you dry camp?
- Do you take overnight stop overs without shore power?
- Do you have a Residential Fridge?
- Do you use an inverter (for Tv or other things)

The reason for these will determine the type of battery you should purchase.

- If you are always plugged into shore-power while camping, a regular Interstate RV/Marine battery(s) would meet your needs.
- If you dry camp then a couple true 6 volt deep cycle batteries (NO CCA RATING) are what you need.
- If you have a Residential fridge then you need (4) true 6 volt deep cycle batteries.

I looked at the Excide battery you mentioned, it is a Hybrid battery, which means it has a little thicker plates than a car battery, but much thinner plates than a True Deep Cycle battery. I looked at the reviews for this model battery you have and there were more complaints than good ratings.

I would recommend going with NEW batteries.

Just need to know what you need these batteries to do for you. Let us know.

Don,
I do not dry camp, do not have residential fridge, and am always connected to shore power or a inverter generator. I do not use an inverter for my TV. Thanks for your help!

In this case, why do you want a second battery? Seems like just one should work for your use perfectly.

Thanks for you reply. I wanted to ensure that I had enough power just for emergencies like having to park at a walmart for a few hours and having to use the water pump and extend the slides etc. i guess the tow vehicle should be able to provide enough power in those cases. Thanks for your help to everyone who responded.

My dealer always installs dual batteries but no switch.
If you are using 2 batteries I suggest you install a Perko (#1, #2, both, off) marine switch. This gives you the option of using both batteries or just 1. If one battery shorts out it will kill the system. If this happens you can select just one battery or you can charge one battery while using the other battery.
