Battery question

I have 2 12 batts in the 5th wheel and I just hooked up to the truck as we’re heading out tomorrow. The batteries are low, as I’m plugged into my truck could they drain my truck battery?

The most probable answer is no. But, why not just unplug from the truck and plug the camper in to give them a charge off the house AC? As long as you don't use your camper AC or other electric items any outlet should provide enough AC to run your camper 12 volt charging system.

If possible start out a trip with fully charged batteries. It protects the batteries and gives you option of camping anywhere you can find a spot. Never know when you are forced to stop somewhere with out AC. Overflow camping, Walmart, casinos, etc.

I have not had a lot of luck getting a big charge while traveling. It is a long run on a small line to the RV batteries. Plug it in overnight and you will get much more charge then while traveling.
Some vehicles don't charge the RV battery at all.

Is the constant 12v wire from the 7 pin connected in the fuse box?

Well I would if I could but I don’t have access tonite. We’re running about 400 miles tomorrow and the same or more the next day before we dewinterize and use the camper. I’ll check my charge along the way and report back.

If the truck will charge the camper battery when you drive, the camper will draw off the truck battery when your not driving.

The 12Volt wire from the 7 pin connector terminates in a wire nut inside of a 4x4 electrical box with a blank cover (in most cases). Mine is located on the frame cross member. Also in that wire nut is the 12Volt lead from the 30Amp fuse (on TT's) and the lead to the TT's battery charge controller.

I would check the connections in that 4x4 box as it also has the break-away switch lead to the TT electric brakes. When I checked mine the crimped connector was loose and the brake wire slid out of the lug.

From what I have read only GM trucks will do this since they don't use a relay.Late model Ford and Rams have a relay and will cut power to the TT harness 10 minutes after the truck has been turned off so that the TV battery will not get drained.
