Beware of DISH WALLY box

Don't use as a primary box, as we found this weekend, we had to take one back, and pick up a older VIP 211z receiver. The Wally requires a lock on all 3 satellite points, and won't operate if it only finds 2, the VIP 211z will still give you programming with only 2 of the 3. That took 2 days on the phone with DISH , then finally winegard (pathway X2) told us about their issues with the wally, and told me to trade it for the 211. Worked like a charm. To be fare, the Wally works great when it has all 3 satellites.

The Wally only needs to see all three satillites for the initial (first time) setup. Once this has been completed, it works fine on one satelite. I just set up two new Wallies on my system with a Winegard Pathway X2.

Wally was setup initially, but wouldn't work at all once we couldn't get all satellites

Interesting.

I have mine setup for two receivers (looking at 72 only) and it's working fine.

I did have to setup the second receiver as a single receiver off of the primary (main) port to get to download the software update, but after that, changed back to two receiver configuration and everything worked fine.

The only problem I've been having is that when rebooting the main receiver it will crash during the guide download sometimes.

Rick

P.S. It did take me most of a day to figure out how to setup the first receiver, the second receiver took about 2 hours, mainly due to all the reboots required.

I have used vip211z receivers in my TT ever since I went to HD 3 years ago. I move the 2nd receiver to my houseboat in the summer and back to the TT bedroom at the beginning of camping season. These receivers work great and my only negative is that they do have all the jacks needed if you have an older tv. Had to use an adapter to connect my wireless headphones.
