Bike Racks

What is everyone's opinion on the Swagman bike rack vs the Allen Sports bike rack. Will be putting three bikes on the rear bumper mount on my 5th wheel. Thanks!

Get the swagman. It's rated for RV use...not sure if the other one is rated for RVs or not but there are very few that are.

I would rethink that bumper mount. I have seen several bikes dragging down the road with that type setup. The bumpers are not rated for the torque exerted on the rear bumpers from the weight of the bikes and the bumping of the highway will eventually rip the bumper from the welds.

If you reinforced the bumper then you could consider that type mount.

Swagman is trailer rated and I agree is one of the better bike racks you can buy.

There are numerous threads on here with documented bumper failures and as stated I have seen it fail personally on trailers. Just trying to save you the hardship you might experience with a failure.

I've had one of those before. With light bikes (two on a light weight carrier) it was fine for a couple of years. One summer we traveled with more people, and put the 4 bike carrier from the van onto the RV. By end of the summer the bumper was already starting to twist from the weight of the bikes bouncing around.

As long as you don't put too much weight on it, or if your bumper is reinforced then they are a good option.

Sorry, I didn't catch earlier that you were mounting to the bumper. On our previous TT (287BHBE) I used these to reinforce the bumper and a 2-bike Swagman. I would definitely reinforce the bumper, if you don't have a receiver hitch!

Bike Racks

Yeah it may be fine but I wouldn't put them on a bumper mount. My camper has the receiver hitch and use it for the Swagman Trailhead 4 RV rack I mentioned earlier....

I love my Swagman. I agree not to mount to bumper though. But very easy to mount the bikes and never had any trouble. Used it for 2 years now.

Toward the back of my Owners Manual there is a CAUTION section with information concerning the rear bumper and what you should avoid.

Do not use the bumper mounts. It will eventually cause your bumper to twist and eventually break. Either have a hitch/receiver installed on the frame or do what I did to my 26BH. I had a customized 1/4" steel bumper made and attached directly to the frame with the receiver right thru the center of the bumper and attached to the frame as well. I carried 5 bikes with no problem. That bumper wasn't going anywhere since it was supported in the center by the receiver being welded to the frame also.

My 28BHBE has the receiver attached directly to the frame.
