Blowing a fuse on Eagle HT landing gear if raising too high

I found out from my dealer that there has been a change in the landing gear electronics on the Eagle HT. Not sure if this carries through the Eagle line of 5th wheels or not. Apparently, if you extend the legs of the landing gear too far, the fuse for the motor will blow. I guess in older models, you would just hit a stop or some sort of clutch mechanism to prevent the leg from extending too far.

Just wanted to inform everyone about this if they have to end up troubleshooting this.

My 2004 trailer, not a Jayco, would do this if over extended. I marked the leg with black paint line so I would not do it again.

My 2011 jayco eagle does the same thing, just carry a few extra 30 amp. fuses, just in case your finger is press too hard on the up button.

I know with my electric jack on my TT that if the jack is over extended or retracted the line fuse will blow..., designed this way to avoid burning out the motor.

Tongue jacks, at least my Husky anyway, has limit switches that kill the motor at the end of travel. One would think these 5th wheel jacks would operate the same way. Strange.

I have a 09 Designer and this fuse blows a lot even when trying to level.

It is a design flaw in many of the electric landing gear jacks. Replace your fuse with a "self resetting" one and the problem will be solved. My dealer got tired of hearing me complain and did it for me.

The fuse on mine is a 30a cartridge type, located right by the switch. I bought a pack of 30a fuses and have them nearby. Never had one blow since. I can look at my landing legs up and down and tell when they are near the end of the range of motion.

The fuse is there for those who don't know. IMO a self reseting fuse/ breaker would be a pain cause there is a time delay. You would be stuck waiting on it to reset.

norty, you are right about a time delay but it's only about 30 seconds - less time than it takes to change it out. It will reset as soon as the element cools.

Had the same problem with my 08 Designer. If you extend for a few seconds then stop for a second or two it will not blow
