Blown bearings

2017 Eagle 29.5 FW last year I blew a bearing replaced the one. From then on I check the grease before each trip. I’m now stick on the side of the road with another blown bearing. Didn’t mess up tire or axle. It’s a Lippert components. Has anyone had this issue with Lippert or why I would be blowing bearings. I’m well under my weight, tire pressure is correct. Thanks in advance

China bearings and races. Get rid of them and use a high quality high temp full synthetic grease. Adjust them properly. Use double lip spring loaded seals. Don't use the ez lube, old school it.

X2 what Earl said. I replaced mine when the trailer was new with Timken bearings bought on Amazon. If you use quality bearings there is no need to check them before every trip. Dexter recommends repacking every 12000 miles or once a year. And never use the Lazy Lube system since you can't see where or where your not getting grease, do it old school and you won't have to worry about them.

Ok I replaced the first blown one myself but pretty I just ordered the whole hub assembly from Lippert. This is above my knowledge so Since I have Lippert axel I can just change out all the hubs with a different brand hun assembly or keep the assembly and just change all bearings? Thanks again

No reason to replace the whole hub no matter the brand since yours should be ok, all these replacements come with cheap china bearings. I would just replace the bearings and cups, you can buy them in sets. Here is a video from Dexter which will be similar to LPI hubs, its an easy job with simple tools to replace. https://youtu.be/GnH-h3W9XvI

I would take the hubs with the new bearing and seals to a local auto shop and have the 1) bearings packed, 2) New bearing races pressed in and 3) Double seals installed. It will save you big bucks f you bring the hubs with bearings to the garage. Be sure to tell them it's for your 5th wheel RV.

Have your brakes checked... my axles got replaced under warranty this winter on my 2017. The brakes from factory were set too tight. So they apparently dragged little bit constantly over heating my bearings slightly. The axles were fine but my dealer said why not ask... so Jayco got lippert systems to completely replace everything. Maybe it's why you have bearings going also.

Wow so just replaced the bearings $36 to get me off the side of highway. The guy who put the bearings in said I was going to need a new hub sooner that later. Quoted $55 for the entire hub assembly Dexter (didn’t have one in or I would have got it). So the spindle is scared up so pretty sure I’m going to have to replace the entire axle which he quoted at $375 with the roster/break hub assembly dexter as well. I will have to look when I get home pretty sure I’m out of warranty as of last month. Any thoughts on going with dexter axel and hubs over Lippert? Thank you alll for the response

I have had no problems with my Dexter axle, easy to get parts, not a big fan of LCI products

That’s what I’m noticing. I haven’t had a chance to check around but $375 each axle didn’t seem that bad considering

Wow did the old bearing explode, have never seen damage like that, looks like most of the damage is between where the bearings ride, strange

Yeah there was nothing left. The one that blew last year was the same way. Following all steps high temp lithium grease correct tire pressure below weight new tires etc. I can see one but seems as though I’m starting in on a pattern

Do you have a TPMS? It would have shown extreme heat transmitted to the tires.

That spindle is toast. I'd inspect the others and replace axles as needed. I'd order axle(s) with springs and brakes so they are just a swap in. Order Dexter's, Lippert axles and springs are junk.

I’m told a complete dexter axle is $375 hubs breaks etc. would I have to replace both axles or can I just do one. So it would be one Lippert and one dexter

Even though they are cheap bearings I’m wondering if it’s something more causing it. In theory replacing the axle should fully eliminate the problem correct?

It looks as if the outermost bearing spun on the spindle causing the failure. Wondering if the original machining of the spindle was out of spec. Both failed on the same axle just different sides, correct? Either the wrong size bearings were installed, or they were machined incorrectly.
