Breakaway cable

While trying to reposition my 2021 Jayco Eagle HT 5th wheel, I accidentally pulled out the breakaway cable. So now I have my 5th wheel in an unlevel campsite and I can't seem to figure out where the breakaway cable reconnects. I've look inside the hitch but can't seem to find it. Any advice?

Breakaway cable

It is probably on the driver’s side on the outside of the pin box. Not inside the hitch.

Welcome to Jayco Owners Forums (JOF)

Are you aware of what the switch looks like? It is about the size of a snack size box of raisins usually black or silver and it (the front opening where the pin goes) will be exposed when looking straight on to the trailer. One my previous 5th wheel it was located and attached to the underside right next to the hitch on the RV.

BTW, you don't want to wait too long to find it as it will drain your battery and I have heard of issues being caused with leaving it out overnight or longer. The trailer brake magnets get too hot and the wiring as well, not that I have experienced that issue, but I have read of issues from others over the years. ~CA

My FWs were up inside the the pinbox, somewhere. Flashlight around under and up in there.

Yes, you're right! I didn't even notice that. The plastic piece at the end of the cable slides in easily but there is no "click" that suggests it's in place. Is that normal?

Breakaway cable

Mine snaps in. Difficult to insert initially, then snaps in place. Pay attention to the orientation.

On mine, which is years back, there was a definite click feeling more than click sound when pulling it out and when inserting it. I would make sure it is all the way in, maybe pull it again and see if it clicks then and then reinsert it and determine if you feel it clicking into position. ~CA

I see what you mean. It snaps in with a pretty good amount of force but then pops out when I let go. Is this a part that needs to be replaced after it is pulled out or should I be able to fully reinsert it?

The pin should be able to be put back in. The breakaway pin on our TT gets pulled for our annual inspections, an replaced.
