Broken Door

Door blew open in a major wind storm. I cracked the door open from the inside and the wind grabbed it out of my hand.

It smashed against the stop about as hard as I could have possibly slammed it myself. Fiberglass is broken around the latch. All else is OK.

Any thoughts on repairs? Do I need a new door?

Thought I'd ask here before taking it in.

The pics did not come through on my computer, but the same thing happened to me in Yuma two years ago. My RV repair place fixed it for me and you could not see where the hole was.

We had this same thing happen about 4 years ago....bummer. The dealer took a piece of hard fiberglass the same color as the outside of the unit and basically glued it onto the outside covering the hole. It looked better than I make it sound but it was a pretty simple fix.

If your door is operating ok, opening and closing then it is most likely alright.

The pics finally came through and that is exactly what happened to mine. I had it fixed for next to nothing and they also removed that rod or pin which caused the problem when the wind slammed my door.

Very common problem on Jayco trailers. They simply need a better system.

Looks just like our door did at 2 days old, in our driveway. I removed the latch, and installed an aluminum plate that was painted to match. Re-installed the latch and it has been fine since.

Albertaguy, that plastic rod will keep the door from damaging your siding. I would rather fix the door than the siding.
