The bouncing driving down the highway flexes the floor down from the slide weight and bends the outriggers. When I stay at my camp I put a 2x4 under each end of slide and support with a Jack to help support. Your slide is above those outriggers whether it is in or out. Why he told u that I do not know. As the slide is going out it is increasing weight on the outrigger. All the way in it has less weight on the outrigger. But u r not bouncing down the highway with it out.
Rock, is it possible to get a picture of your set up with the 2x4? And when we looked yesterday with the slide out extended, it didn't look like the floor was hitting the outrigger but after thinking about it, they still had the support beam/jack up so they could finish the job so maybe that is why it isn't hitting.

Dennis,
Even with the slide closed look up above the tires, the outriggers have a bolt or lag screw that goes from outrigger end into the floor. Like I said the outrigger is just giving support to the area outside the frame. My slides are closed now FW in my Rv carport. With slide fully open I take a cut 2x4 the slide width and place it just inside that metal piece. So the 2x4 is on the black floor material but up against the metal. About 2/3 way out I put the big screw Jack and just enough to lightly push up against the floor.
Also they make screw jacks that fit under the rails on your dining slide.

Opened slide to change out kitchen faucet that kept turning on bouncing down the highway.
Here are some pics, not to good to much sun reflection. Put the 2x4x12 just inside the metal on the black material each side of slide.
You can see the bolt at end of outrigger going into floor. Also the Teflon pad Jayco put under each roller. Mine were digging into the floor causing roller bracket to rub.
