buy during RV show?

We are considering an Eagle Lite 31.5 fbhs as our first fifth wheel purchase ever and have heard prices may be lower on new models during our local RV show...what do you more experienced rv'ers think? Is this true? If not, when can we get the best deals? Thank you!

Great question!!! Personal experience... We used the RV show to check out the different brand tt's we narrowed our interest to (thus being a bunk design so we had more room for our 3 grandkids with one on the way). Ultimately, we figured we would have at least 2-3 kids with us at a time when we camped over the next 10 years. We then took advantage of Ebay (rv) and RV Direct to get online quotes which were far less than the local dealer (awesome tool to use when negotiating). Get that RV Direct quote before you head to the RV show. You will be armed with research that will please your pocket-book! Hope this helps

I just purchased a 2010 365 BHS from a Jayco dealer. I found a new unit and it was on the dealer's lot for about 14 months. I got a great deal. I bought both of my campers the sameway. I went to the RV show and the prices were too high. Keep looking, there are some great deals going now!

We did the RV Show thing when shopping for a new 5W. We then looked online for the model we wanted to get an idea of pricing. We were shocked but very impressed when our local Jayco dealer right from the git-go quoted us a price less than what we'd seen with other sources or at the show!

I suppose it depends on several factors to get down to a final purchase price. And we had a trade-in that maybe the dealer wanted as it was in very good shape. We must have been in the right place at the right time.

I'd google a 2009 or 2010 year model of what you want. I did that on the new 5'er we got and found a 2009 model new on the lot for 26,000 off sticker! CHA CHING!!! SCORE!

Here's a quote from me taken from an earlier thread with the same question:

"Ya know, I have always heard that if you get your car for 20-25% off MSRP you did very well (Our truck was 23% off msrp current year model)... and an RV you did well at 30% off MSRP (ours was 31% off on the next year’s model). Pretty much if you can buy that new vehicle for around private party low Blue Book (or NADA), you did extremely well. Don't know how accurate that philosophy is, but just the rule of thumb we have also followed for a few years too.
Digging through my enquiry folder I see I didn’t transfer all of the email quotes that I received, but here are a couple that I found who quoted me the invoice price for the specific options we wanted and willing to sell at least at that price…. www.rvfactorydirect.com; gillettesinterstaterv.com. I’m not sure but my fading memory says that Lakeshore or AllSeasons rv might also have quoted invoice prices/qoutes. It’s best to talk to the internet or fleet sales manager when contacting the dealer (avoid the salesman). And of course get that quote emailed to you in print, ultimately use those numbers/paper quote to negotiate at your local dealer (who will want more to cover transportation costs to you from factory – usually non-negotiable).

Another thought…. We also use Costco/AAA auto buying program to find invoice prices and dealers willing to sell for below invoice. “

How to figure 30% of MSRP As for how to figure the above percentage…… Take the MSRP of tt including options/etc (for us it was $24,472), subtract what you pay, and for us this was $16,900 (this does not include the taxes/fees). With these numbers it is $7,572. Then divide the difference you will pay from the MSRP. Ie: 7,572 divided by 24,472 = 31%. (We found this dirt bottom price online, then took it to our dealer... we negotiated, and we have now enjoyed our Jayco for almost a year!).
