Cable and satellite hookup

I have tried to find threads on this but no luck. Is it possible to have a cable and a satellite hookup. In other words, we would like to have both if satellite is not available, but park cable is. Also we have NO understanding of electronics, so stick drawings would be welcome

If I understand what you are asking - you want to be able to use satellite when it is available, but when it is not available, use park cable. If that is exactly what you want, then yes, you will just have to switch the cable going into your trailer.

Now, if you are asking if there is a device that will switch the inputs, then I think you would need a diplexer (think splitter). I just did a quick google search and found this webpage with some items that will probably work. I am guessing others with better info will post soon.

Basically with the diplexer you will just connect the cable to the cable input, the satellite to the satellite input and a cable from the output side of the diplexer to the trailer.

I think then you would just have to turn off your satellite box to get use the cable from the park. Hopefully someone else will be able to confirm this.

This instruction assumes the following things about your camper:
1. There is a wall plate that has a 12DC power plug, cable connector, black push button and a green LED.
2. A second wall plate with 2 cable connectors. Possibly marked "A" and "B". Possible a jumper cable between them.
3. A single cable connector outside the camper.
4. Optionally a cable connector wall plate in the bedroom.

These connections are common to all cases:
1. The main TV antenna connection goes to the 12VDC/antenna amplifier wall plate cable connector.
2. Optionally the bedroom TV antenna connector goes to the cable connector wall plate.
3. The bedroom TV will get the same signal that the main TV gets.

Here are the connections for satellite reception:
1. Remove the jumper.
2. Connect the satellite receiver dish input to port "A" (top connector).
3. Connect the satellite receiver TV output connector to port "B" (bottom connector).
4. Be certain the antenna amplifier green LED is OFF.

To use the RV crank up antenna all you need to do is turn on the antenna amplifier. (Green LED ON)

To use a campground supplied cable simple disconnect the 2 satellite receiver cables and reinstall the jumper cable and turn OFF the antenna amplifier.

My only comment to TNchuck100's response is that some of the newer satellite receivers do not have a cable output on them. They have hdmi outputs that you can connect direct to the back of your main TV. That is the situation with my high definition Direct TV Satellite system.

Crablad, do you mean both at the same time, or the ability to use both? Check this post, and download the document in the first post. You have a lot of options, diplexer, adding a separate jack for satellite only etc... but knowing how it's to be used would be helpful.

Here's what I did to have both Satellite and Cable at the same time without a diplexer

In short, the answer is yes.
