Can't they figure out a better blind?

We've had our 2019 Eagle for about a year and a half and some of the blinds have been replaced twice. The string design is terrible with some type of paper cover over the actual string. The paper wears out quickly and then binds and rubs on the string which then breaks. (Here's a suggestion, buy black string).
It takes weeks to get repaired as Jayco will only send a new blind as they don't want to pay for labor to restring them.
Any thoughts or suggestions from Jayco are welcome. The warranty runs out in June

unfortunately they are counting on the warranty to run out. My thought is you will need to replace with better string yourself if you can or look for another option. Sometimes in the RV world and car etc... you get to repair it yourself if you want it to work like you expect.

You can get a restring kit, with enough cord, springs, and grommets in it, for many repairs. I've done a couple, and it's not hard to do.

I got so tired of replacing strings I now have faux wood blinds in my camper. Much better and look good too.

Jayco blinds suck. They don't even block the evening sun when it's setting. We've had to use reflectix just to block the sun watching tv in the evenings. It's all about going the cheaper route and saving money. When I was looking at Grand Designs their shades were awesome. Floor plan just didn't work with GD. I know some just replace them with roller shades. Not a cheap route.

I have just restrung 3 of my blinds in the first year of use. I called United Shade who makes them and she told me they are breaking due to Jayco installing them with too much tension on the cord. She stated that if the shade is hard push up or pull down, the tension is too tight. She stated that you should loosen the cords enough to only hold up the shade from falling down. Worth a try.

We just had our kitchen shade replaced under warranty. I'm looking at replacing all of them with roller shades after the warranty runs out. Not cheap.

I just readjusted all my blinds per the advice I received from United Shade. What a difference. Shades slide up and down with ease and no binding. Jayco had my strings so tight it was like a banjo. I found it easier to just remove the tie down lower screws and move them up about a half an inch instead of trying to loosen the knot in the cord and retie them.

Glad pinnacle and north point have privacy and room darkening shades. My old 2007 Eagle had the string and paper blinds and were a pain.

I had the same gripe with my previous motorhome. I ended up going to Home Depot and bought regular blinds with no strings. Worked great! You can get blinds in any width so its a fairly easy.

On my 2018 Jayflight, two window cornices fell off in the first 6 months and I had continual problems with the blinds. I decided to make curtains & sewed black out fabric on the backs of two of them. They brighten up the interior, provide more security than the blinds and are way easier to use.

I have a 2019 212QBW the blinds were very hard to use. Thanks for your information. I loosened the cords and the blinds work great. Thanks again Salsa.

The string needs to be strengthened. This can be accomplished in two ways. Way one coat the string with beeswax. Way two use wax coated dental floss.

When you restring them you can order a roll of solid colored shade cord off Amazon which is not supposed to fray. The cheap garbage they use on the shade has a colored coating over the fine white cord. Brilliant! I bought a 100 yard roll (300 feet) for around $15.

Sounds like it's worth a try. How do you loosen the tension on the cords?

Loosen the screw in the center of the cord spool on the wall, and you will be able to unwrap the cord, or turn the spool in one direction or the other, to loosen the cord. It usually doesn't take much to adjust them. Then tighten the screw, and you're all set.

On my Eagle, on some of the blinds I had to take the screw out of the bottom plastic tie down and move them up about a half inch due to them being strung so tight.
