Changing to 16" Wheels

Hi,

I needed to replace the stock 15" Marathon tires so I thought I'd upgrade to 16" wheels as well so I could get some decent Load Range E tires. Of course they are a bit bigger in diameter as well so there isn't much clearance left between the tires now that they are installed.

I don't think it's an issue but I thought I'd see what you thought.

Is this too close?

My eagle showed signs of touching the skirts so I had the dealer raise the cabin to the next holes, which came to 2 1/4" which also leveled the rv when towing. I'd just watch for tire wear where skirt is close.
I had about a good inch of clearance, yours looks to be more.

Ya... I was thinking of getting the X-chocks too... until I put those wheels on.

I guess I'll have to look at one of the bracing systems now instead.

Yeah, that was another thing, xchocks barely fit. Funny thing is that my new maxxis are the same size, according to sidewall numbers, as the original tires. I had to get a set of the other, vertical tightening chocks and will be trying them out today. Odd that the space between the tires closed though, unless raising the entire rv somehow effected that.

What are the vertical chocks? Do you have a link to them?

I think Dexter says 1" is the minimum. Not sure what brand axles you have but it shouldn't matter. They all move the same way. I have 2.25" between my OEM 15" tires and am thinking of going to 16" too. It'll be interesting to hear how yours works out.
Have you towed very far or at all with it?

I have towed about 50 miles with it with no problems yet.
