Considering a Jayco 5th Wheel

I'm looking to purchase a new Jayco Eagle HT 28.5RSTS fifth wheel. Any insights on quality?

Welcome to Jayco Owner's Forum. This link will show posts regarding your camper and this link is our google deep search tool.

If you haven't yet picked up your camper, here is a PDI checklist you might use to confirm everything is great before you leave the dealership.

We have a 2019 28.5 RSTS. We both really like the layout. We were torn between the 30.5 and the 28.5. 30.5 gives to a nice coffee bar which we would like to have, but it takes away the outside kitchen.
But I digress..
You asked about quality. Oh boy, Axle problems, frame weld problems, roof replacement, the famous front "sidewall crack", schwintek slide nightmare. (I don't think you need to worry about the Schwintek anymore, I think they ditched them on the kitchen slide.) Those are some of the big ones. It helps that we are just 4 hours from Jayco and Lippert HQ, and don't mind going back to get things fixed right.

Now out of 2 year warranty and in the middle of replacing leaf springs that Dexter sent free, parts only.

All in all, we still love it and can't wait to get back out there.

If we had it to do over again, we would not get any "HT" model, because it seems that they scrimp too much to keep the weight down. But a bigger 5th wheel means getting a bigger truck, so then we would be moving toward class A territory in $$. And that's why we keep buying lottery tickets.

We traded in our 2018 RSTS HT 3 weeks ago to make room for a growing family (2023 355 MBQS). 15+ trips year in Florida heat and several feet of northern snow. If you use it there will be issues but the memories will be worth it. Great layout and handled everything we threw at it. Yes the weight issue affects durability but would definitely do it again.
Good luck!

I'm in the same boat so to speak!!!! We have been looking to go to a 5th wheel but just can't pull the trigger. Now with pricing going down we want to act but going from site to site and seeing all these issues, it just makes us leary. We have a 2019 silverado 2500HD diesel and was considering the lighter HT series Jayco but seeing this post just puts us back to the drawing board!

We have a 2022 28.5 and love it. Had a few small issues but took care of them myself.
