Curt 24k Slider Hitch Problems

Getting ready for a Wisconsin to West Coast road trip with the 5th Wheel. 18 Stops, 6,000 miles, over 2 months. 7 Primary stops, hitting popular campgrounds and visiting the kids. Other 11 stops are over nighters. Like to limit daily distance to about 300 miles.

Serviced the 5th Wheel last week. Serviced wheel bearings, checked all suspension bolts (found a loose u-bolt), tire pressure/tire pressure sensor check, dewinterised, and serviced the 5th Wheel hitch.

Found problems with the hitch. The hitch is a Curt 24k slider. Part of the slider mechanism is 8 steel rollers mounted on shoulder bolts. 4 on each side. 2 of the steel rollers had seized up on the shoulder bolt, breaking the shoulder bolts. With the broken shoulder bolts, the hitch had a significant clunking when starting and stopping. E-Trailer had replacement rollers and shoulder bolts in-stock.

I was starting to have hitching problems last season. Believe this was the root cause. Main issues hard to get the jaws to lock, tough to get the slider to lock in either position.

Remember to service your 5th Wheel hitch regularly.

When connecting the truck and 5th wheel. Have a standard process. Follow the process every time. That includes checking jaw lock and slider lock (if you have one).
