Design flaw with 38Fwls awning

First of all the rope lights should be at the END of the awning and not against the trailer body. The center extension blocks out 50% of the light from the light string!

This one is a biggie! The forward awning lever should have been mounted 2” further out so as to NOT pinch the door when retracting the awning!!!

My awnings are to be replaced under warranty because of how the LED lights are stitched to the awning. Carefree will replace them through a Jayco dealer.

Last October I had my 5er into a dealer (Steve's RV) in Lacombe, Louisiana for an issue with the kitchen slide which they fixed within a hour. We are full time and usually spend October & November in the New Orleans area. Steve's RV was highly recommended for the slide issue. While they were working on it, the owner said he could replace both awnings because of the LED light issue. He recommended I wait until we get back in the area.........which we will this coming October, so we get an awning with new fabric. Our warranty is up in May of 2021. They have been Jayco dealers for nearly 40 years and are without a doubt the best dealer I've come across. They put the customer first.............BTW, I did not buy our RV from them. I believe the awning LED lights are normally against the wall but not stitched to the awning which makes them pull away from the fabric.

Is there some sort of recall? You say your awning is a "Carefree"? How would I find out what make mine is? Thanks for your time.

No recall, but Carefree is just conceding that there was a problem. In other words, the squeaky gear gets the grease. Not a safety issue which would generate a recall. On the third picture of your original post it has "Carefree" at the bottom of the arm........... hmm, I think it's a Carefree!! Are the LED lights stitched to the awning??

I will have to check on the lights being stitched to the awning. Were you having trouble with the lights (dimming) or the way the awning opened/ closed, leaking? My lights dim after about 10 minutes of operation and the awning does not close fully on one side. Hope I'm not being a PITA!

None of the above..........I would haven't thought about the lights being stitched to the awning or whether not it would be covered by Carefree if it weren't for Steve's RV bringing it to my attention.
