Designer / Pinnacle Tire Upgrade

I am a little concerned with the "E" Rated Chinese Goodyear Marathons that came on our Jayco Pinnacle 5th Wheel.
We are going to travel from Florida to California and back to Florida in early 2012.
Has anybody upgraded their Designer/Pinnacle to a better tire and/or to "G" Rated tires?
If so what tire did you upgrade to?
Looking for any input, comments or suggestions as we want to have safe and troublefree travels in 2012.

I upgraded my current trailer from E rated tires to the GY G rated tires almost 2 yrs ago. You need to make sure that the rims are rated for 110 pounds and the size of the wheel is ok for the G tire. Should give you a nice safety margin. Expensive but peace of mind is priceless.

I will be changing my OEM E rated tires to G614's probably in the spring. My dealer told me the wheels are 110psi rated, but I will be verifying this myself before I make the change. As was said above, "expensive", but that is OK with me in this case.

I checked the wheel mfg website and it says the wheels are 110 PSI Rated so it looks like I will be ok going to the "G" Rated Tires

It is very common for an RV manufacturer to put on tires that are rated for the EMPTY weight of the RV. We had problem and had a blow out and replaced tire with next up rated tire. If I had known in advance, I would have insisted dealer replace tires before I purchased (don't have that RV now)!

If you are going to 110 psi make darn sure you have metal valve stems.

Metal valve stems are a good idea, no matter the pressure.

another option is to replace the wheels and tires with 215 /75 /17.5 wheels i did this after loosing 2 of the marathons on my 2010 designer in 5000 mi.
tires are load range H I think 4800 lb. cap. and total cost mounted and balanced delivered to me 1800.00 dollars
outside dia. is the same as marathons .Max psi. 125 and provides a 30% safety factor much like the truck.

The DW wants to know if the wheels are as pretty as the stock Designer wheels. Seriously.

there is a selection of 3 or 4 wheel styles available in 17.5 and I got 7 spoke with gray inserts I think they look better than the originals.

I finally got motivated this morning to crawl under my Designer and see what info I could see on the wheels. I definitely saw a Max Load of 3,750 lbs and 110 psi max pressure.
"G" rated tires are definitely in my future. The "E" rated that came from Jayco are going away.

Ed,

Where did you see that as I looked at the wheels and saw a brand and made in China. Nothing about max load or max PSI

It was on the inside of one of the "spokes". There was something cast into every spoke I looked it and the max weight and psi was on one of them. The other spokes had various types of mold marks, etc. and who knows what they mean, but one of them had the info I was looking for. I would be happy to send a picture, but I doubt I can get one without taking the wheel off.

I have a question:

Does going from an E tire at 80 psi to a G at 110 change the ride characteristics of the RV?

It would seem that the stiffer sidewall of the G tire at 30 more psi would have a harsher ride than the E. Any bumps that could be absorbed by the E tire's flexing and not the G's would then be transferred to the other suspension parts. Or am I totally out to lunch on this? (This last question is rhetorical...no comment needed.)

Actually, that is a good question (the tire question, not the lunch one), one I wouldn't mind seeing answered.

I went from E to G rated tires on my fifth wheel. I did not notice any change in the ride of the trailer.
