Do I need a Slider hitch - answer

On a NorthPoint/Pinnacle...most likely Eagle.

YES, YOU NEED A SLIDER!!

First time out with the new TV - 2017 F350.

Darn near blew out the window...probably one more inch of turning would have done it.

Jockeying around the Flying J with uneven lot.

I should have been paying more attention.

12 years I've been doing this....

That was to top off me hitting the corner of the hydro box at the site with my door.

Aluminum dents easy!!!! And really shows up on black in the sun.

Bad trip for Dad.

I have a slider but I never would have got out and pulled it. Never even crossed my mind.
Plus, I usually slide it when I'm at the site... but again, it never crossed my mind. I had a fairly straight forward back in.
I miss the notched corners of my SOB's cap.

Answer to "Do I need a slider"

And this is where the new guy asks....

What is a Slider? and how could it have prevented this?

Prevented?? That's what I meant above. The only preventive measure I could have taken was to pay attention.
I would have never pulled into a giant parking lot and got out to move the slider.
If I was in a tight position...THEN I would have thought about using the slide.

I was just looking for the diesel pumps and backed up a little and turned towards them. Turned a little too sharp on a sloping lot not thinking.
Never heard the noise before, but I knew what it was when I heard it!

The only safeguard is a full size bed, auto slider, or maybe an Anderson hitch.

If you seriously don't know what a slider is.... it's a fifth wheel hitch ontop of a sliding mechanism that slides back 8 inches for people who have a short bed box. You manually pull a lever then lock your trailer tires, pull the TV forward and the hitch rolls back. You can maneuver like that but can't drive like that.
So you can turn 90 degrees without the cap hitting your back window. :face

Interesting, I have a basic Ball Hitch system with an EQ hitch. So I had no clue. I can see how useful it would be though.

Sliders don't come into play with a travel trailer, only fifth wheels. They do make auto sliders for those who don't want to be bothered activating it manually.

Yep, I have a slider too. Don't use it much but have to pay attention! I have come close a few times, but, have to plan parking lot maneuvers closely, especially gas stations.

I am still getting used to a longer trailer with longer overhang at the rear. Hit a couple curbs last time out.

Hate to hear that klassic. Guess it could have always been a lot worse.

I tried. There is too much reflection in this mirror like black finish to see it in a picture.

Pretty sure though it wouldn't be there if it was a steel door skin.

Just make sure where ever you take the TV to get fixed they do a good job. My neighbor took his '17 250 in after the hail storm and they did a crappy job. He had to take it back for a 2nd time to fix it right.

LOL...and then some! But the Ford dealership that he took it to did a crappy job on the aluminum body. He had to take it back a 2nd time for them to make it right!

Well u did a tree, brakes, slide, levelers, front cap so u r good to go with no further problems since u pretty much have suffered all.

Damn that sucks. If not for the weight I would of gotten an auto slide instead of my Manuel one. But up at my camp I could never get an auto slider out of the bed. And I use my bed to carry all my supplies. I can see when turning left but not right that is when the DW comes usefull lol. The big problem I have with my slider is unlocking it. 50% of the time I have to put the landing gear down to relieve the weight to move it.

I'm thinking Anderson hitch...getting that little extra hitch extension.
But I would need to know if I can get to 90 if I had too.
I'm sick of dealing with my heavy hitch.
I have lots of room with my slider.... but my attention is starting to fade.
Along with some other things. Lol.

Memory ha what fading!!!!!!!!!!!! We all get that, at least I hope or we are just losing it. Like I said my issue is weight to remove an auto slider. At home no big deal but up at my camp no way. I still cannot see how an Anderson hitch does not move the weight behind the axle. It bolts in the truck like ours do but the hitch point is farther back. So how the hell does not shift the weight back?

Is your FW eight foot or 8.6 like the Pinnacle?
