Does tire datecode matter on new RV?

I just noticed the tire datecodes on my new 5er. Since there are zero miles on these tires, does the datecodes matter to me?
  • 1201
  • 1204
  • 1204
  • 3720
The first one above is 20 years since manufacture, the next two are 17 years ago and the 4th tire was made the 37th week of last year.

Should I replace the first three even though I've not yet gone anywhere with them?

When you say "new 5er", do you mean new to you or is it a brand new purchase?

Sorry, just noticed it's in your signature. If it's a 2022, I would take it back to the dealer for an explanation and would demand that all the tires be replaced. However, you may be looking at the wrong numbers. The born date should follow DOT.

It appears there are a second set of numbers to the right of DOT. Take a pic of those. Good tires............Goodyear Endurance.

duh.. I should have read the other 4 digits

When I look at the 4 numbers after DOT, then I see 3720 on all four. Thanks.
Here is that same tire:

I wonder if the dealer sold the tires off your rig to someone who needed one quick and then failed to get new for yours. I don't think any manufacturer would keep tires that old on the shelf.

Double check you are reading the right number then go to the dealer if they are really that old. 20 year old tires should show a lot of weather cracking, etc.

That's more like it. Although I would like to have seen them made in 21. You'll be good. I'm sure Jayco keeps their stock of tires under cover where they are not exposed to the elements.

Yeah, I'm embarrassed a bit for even posting this.

Reading about so many other's issues, I suppose, has made me paranoid.
I keep looking for something wrong with the camper.
We love it.

But those with issues are really the minority, Happy Campers don't post much. Your dealer is also a big factor in how your rig was delivered to you.

Besides, Goodyear Endurance Tires are only 5-6 years on the market.

Something to consider with tires on RVs. This is not always true but something to check on.

Your new tires/RV may have been pulled from the city it was built in to the dealer. That could be several thousand miles. I have been passed by transporters pulling new RVs when I was traveling 70-75 (in the car). Most RV tires are rated for 65 mph. 2000+ miles at 75-80 is degrading the tires. In the case of the Heartland 5th wheel we purchased (with Chinese bombs on it), it was pulled back and forth to either Mesa, 40 miles away, or Tucson, 100 + miles away at least twice. It was brought to a venue in Glendale where they hold large RV sales. So, while the tires look new after they detail the RV for sale, unless they pull the build tires off and replace them, the tires are not new. They have seen some miles. In my case one of them blew with less than 500 miles on the RV. They all were replaced after that.

You can register your tires on the Goodyear website, so if there's ever a concern with them, they'll notify you. The numbers you'll need are the 8 digits to the right of the "DOT". Check all four, you may find they're all the same number/letter sequence.

What I read is.
2 years professional storing after production can be sold as new.
Other statement:Every year storing counts as 5 weeks of use.
In Europe Michelin writes let the tires be checked every year after 5 years, especially on aging signs, an preventively renew them after 10 years of use.
This could mean in some cases 12 years after DOT- date. Your tires a good year ago produced, so maximally 10 years from now is a bit more then 11 years after week 36 of 2020 so 2031.
Or sooner if inspection shows aging signs of importance.

My opinion is that the age of your tires are within reason.

Tires need to be changed if over 5 years old. I inspect RVs for a living

Later post of topicstarter already gave the newest production week on all 4 tires, he looked wrong first.

But 5 years is short.
With a little care tires can last up to 10 years of use. That care is keeping pressure high enaugh with some reserve, and cover from UV light( in sunlight, only when standing ) and peroxides like Ozon. Some electrical machines produce Ozon) so storing in a garage with such an instument is not wise.

Nowadays we also have to care for the environment, if average renewal goes to 8 years, a lot les tires to recicle, wich is still difficult.

RV's dont make many miles , so treath wear is mostly no issue.
