Dumb question on 5er length..
I am almost embarrassed to ask this, but what is the difference with regards to Jayco's specs below regarding length of the 5er? Exterior travel length (pin box to bumper) vs total exterior length. About 1.5 ft difference it seems.....and I have no idea why?

Pin box is recessed under the front cap which extends further than the pin. It could be centered on the pin to help a buyer determine total length from hitch to rear bumper.
The total length would be from the front cap to the rear bumper.

Quick answer.. US roadways care about "pinbox to bumper" for total travel length allowed on the road.

I wonder, does the nose stick out over the pin box? Or are they measuring the "pin box" from the pin itself?
Edit: answered before I posted...

More important would be "bumper to bumper" as it total vehicle length below 65ft.
Commecial carriers would be 53ft total on a trailer.
I am 60 bumper to bumper 63 with my tray extended.

Makes sense. It must be the pin-bumper for the shorter length. The distance from the pin to the front of the cap would be the longer length. Interesting. Most other brand sites don't give two lengths.

The Mor-Ryde extends beyond the actual pin box and not thefront cap so where does that figure in?.

So you can measure from the pin to bumper on the 5th and from the 5th hitch to the front of your truck and that will give you the overall length of the 5er and truck. Helps for picking spots at CG's also. It's the same as using the coupler on a TT for measurement.
The end of the Mor-Ryde means nothing as does the front cap.

A great question! i bought a 33.5 RETS last July and since then between the '14 brochure, the '15 brochure, and Jayco's website I've found at least 4 or 5 different lengths listed. I have no clue how long it actually is! It officially grew a foot the first week I owned it. Now when people ask I tell them it's about 36 feet.

For total overall length would I not just measure from front bumper of truck to rear bumper on fifth wheel? Who cares what hangs over my box.
That being said the OP asked a great question. The brochure on my unit said 40.5 feet overall but when I measured front cap to rear bumper I ended up at 42.5 feet.

I think cariboocreek has it right, just get a tape measure and measure the outfit when hooked up? I did that with my truck, FW and boat all attached at got about 73' so I know how long my "train" is. Don't worry, I don't try to pull into the campgrounds with everything hooked up, I do drop the boat at the marina before setting up my FW.

From my experience, the difference of the two lengths of a 5th wheel is that the smaller measurement is the inside measurement from the front of the 5'er to the inside rear of the 5'er. The outside measurement is from the front cap (or pin box) to the real bumper. I have measured mine several times and this seems to be true measurements. Also, I have measured more than one 5'er. Also total measurement for tow vehicle and 5'er would be determined by the length of the truck with the 5'er hitched up.
