fresh water door

Just wondering how many people have a lock on their fresh water door.
I have one on mine. I put one on when we added the two solar panels

I do not want anyone fooling around with the water.
It like people having locking caps on the car for gas.
DO Not want anything getting into it.

I had just contacted Jayco about water running out of the two hoses underneath the trailer before the tank was filled, then I read this post. Their reply was: as soon as water starts coming out of the two hoses, stop filling for a few minutes and then complete filling the tank. I haven't had a chance to try it yet, so we'll see.

Funny, I read this thead a while ago and riding really understand what was going on as a result of not having experienced this. Filled out HT 29.5BHDS up for the first time the other day, and when it got full, it spewed a ton of water for a very long time. My wife and I looked at each other scratching our heads. We both new that the water fill rate wasn't so high that that was all water above the tank fill line. I though about it for a few days and remembered this thread, ironically. Now I get it. What has worked? Has anyone tried the Jayco method? Or have you guys all out shutoff valves on the drains?

This didn't solve the problem, water still runs out of the overflow tubes almost immediately when trying to further fill the tank.

This is my solution to the problem- a pair of hose pinch-off pliers, and will work for anyone that has a flexible drain hose and has access to it. My FWT is under my bed so the drain hose is a piece of cake to get at. I keep the pliers right next to the hose so they're always handy.

The ones I have (pictured above) are made by Lisle, Model# 23000. Any good auto parts store should have this or a competitor's brand in stock.

One word of caution: I would not pinch off the drain hose until after the tank is full to ensure there's a path for air to escape while filling the tank.

well i did put a shutoff on both hoses to stop the water overflow and then finish filling the tank... still dont know if it is helping my two tank equalizing problem though ... myself i took two pvc elbows attached short pieces to them to hook to the hoses brought them together to a pvc t then out to the side with a longer piece of pvc to a ball shutoff valve and fastened to the frame with a lap over clamp all of the pipe is above the underbelly corrugated plastic except where it fastens to frame .... when it starts coming out i just shut the valve and finish filling the tank and after it has had a chance to drop some thru use i open it back up to vent ... funny thing is it still has as of yet never come out of the front drain vent at the water fill just starts running out the fill hole when its full

ok here is a drawing I did of the way I did it ... I used half inch pvc and a pvc ball valve and got the elbows with one side threaded so I could screw hose barb ends in them for the existing drain hoses

I just stop filling up when the overflow tubes start running water. I figure that's full enough. The problem I have is after I fill the tank up and move it to the RV site, I lose 5 to 10 gallons of water due to moving the 5er around on an unlevel site prior to getting it level. I have a very complex solution...after filling, I stick two corks in the tubes until I get the 5er in the site .
