Electric awning won't retract or extract

Anybody know how to get an electric awning in that won't work? All it does is click when you push the button. Manual I have states nothing about troubleshooting.

Thanks!

Manually closing awning

Not sure what brand or model you have, but thought I would try to help and provide instructions from my manual for a dometic 9100 power awning.

1. Slide the pull strap (provided with rv) into the utility slot of fabric roller tube assembly(FRTA).
2. While one person is holding onto the pull strap, remove the screw in the top of the right top casting. The FRTA will immediately roll in once the bolt is removed. Walk the awning to the closed position.
3. Align hole where screw was removed and replace screw into top casting to secure awning.

Good luck

There is no spring or pull strap on a C of C electric awning. Dometic, I'm not sure.

If you use the manual retract procedure you may need to take the RV in for service to rewind the spring.

While camping with friends, their awning failed to retract. I reconnected the plug at the motor and it started working again. On first inspection the plug looked fine but disconnecting and reconnecting the plug did the trick.

Thanks for all suggestions, but none are working. And it is a dometic 9100 electric. Even removing bolt that you mentioned, still does not let it roll up.

Did you unplug the power? My manual says you have to disconnect the power cable which is also near the bolt you loosened.

Our TT came with an auxiliary power cord, that can be connected directly to the camper battery or tv battery. I have never tried it. I found it in a drawer with other random stuff, with no label to what it was.

Just a thought but are the hand bolts you would use to lower one side or the other "tilt" loose?

Yes. It doesn't move at all or even attempt to move. Just clicks. Sounds as if motor is locked up. Bad thing is, it's only been extracted/retracted less than 10 times since it was installed over the winter. It is my extra awning coming off of slide.

Here are the exact instructions from the manual. Check it over and see if you missed a step somewhere.

Thanks for all the feed back and help. Fortunately, one of my neighbors in the campground knows a Dometic dealer and repairman, so I had him come out today. Even he couldn't get the awning to roll up manually. We had to totally disconnect the roller tube from the arms and slide awning out of the tract, and manually roll up. We then zip tied the arms to the awning frame so they would stay closed so I can travel.

He seems to think the motor has locked up. He started a warranty claim and will come back with new motor to install. I'll keep all updated as to how it unfolds.

Kind of nice to get a hookup from a neighbor in the campground. Hope it all works out good for you.

This thread reminds to research my awning so I know what to do when it breaks.
Thanks.

We are in a seasonal site at our lake from March 1st to mid November, and only pull out for about 4-5 trips a year. I wasn't in full panic mode yet, because we were just getting things ready to pull out this Thursday for a 4 day trip. I knew I had time this week to get it in before we left. Now, had we been at a campsite somewhere for a weekend trip, I would have been in a pickle.

Good thing is, service guy says these awnings don't fail very often like this, and he anxious to get the tube and motor apart to see what went wrong. He said he's never been able to not roll one up manually.

Take the end cap off the end that the motor is on and disconnect the leads. Remove the motor and open it up and see what you got. One of the gears might be broken. Easy to do or at least it was with my C of C. I worked directly with C of C and after I sent photos they agreed to replace my motor. They sent me a new motor and I replaced the old one. Hope this helps.
