If Mother Nature wants to tear your awning off of your camper, she will, whether it is tied down or not. IMHO, just put it out when you are using it and bring it in when you are not or it becomes windy. It's very easy to do with the electric awning.
Never leave camp with the awning out. Never ever tie it down as damage will be expensive. When you are not comfortable with it bucking in the wind it should be rolled up.

Setting the angle of the awning helps a lot. We usually have our set to the middle setting, but drop it to the lowest when the wind kicks up. Like the others have stated when it starts making you nervous, roll it up.

We have a nineteen foot awning on our trailer. I really like it. I wish we didn't have to roll it up in the events of "just in case." the guys on the Forest River site have figured out a way to activate it by a remote. This would come for me. I like to roll it up clean. I do find the awning difficult to adjust. Sometimes one side will refuse to move once the pin is pressed. I also have to coax the arms out by hand. I had it looked at by the techs where I bought it from. I think that's all they did because there was no change. I'm going to have it serviced next at a different dealer in another country so we will see if that makes a difference.
