extra valve at pump

Through trial and error of trying to get my country fill to work I discovered an extra valve installed right at the inlet side of my water pump. It sits between the black plastic hose (country fill) valve and the pump pretty much right at the entry point. I believe this was a previous owner install as it is brass and I cannot find any reference to it in any manual.
Can anyone think of a practical reason for this valve and the need to be able to shut off the water flow into the pump at this point?
I inadvertently shut it off thinking it was my black country fill valve as it isn't really visible from the access panel.

He may have had issues with the pump check valve and it was letting the tank fill while on city water.

Could it be a way to draw antifreeze into the system for winterization?

I agree with Marcm, that is where my (2018 26.5 RLDS Eagle HT) winterizing hose connects to a valve.

My guess would be, the previous owner broke the original valve and replaced it from a hardware store.

No, I actually have a working black valve that handles the winterizing hose fine.

Can you post a picture of the pump and valve?
