Extreme Temps

Have a 38FLSA with 3 X 15k ACs. Am a newbie to camping and am planning a trip to the West Coast. Have reserved an overnight in Needles. Watching the temps a month out it looks a bit harsh even at night. I don't think I could run an electric toothbrush with all three running. Spoke to dealer, Jayco mfg and Coleman AC mfg for practical guidance and received little useful help. Wanted some practical info on how to best use the three ACs and got mostly crickets. Found this forum and joined to see if could get some seasoned camper guidance. Also camper did not come with a generator and plan to install one. Dealer suggested a 5500. Couldn't find anyone that could tell me if a 7k would offer any benefits with respect to the 3 ACs. Plan a short trip to AR this month for trial run, but still won't be exposed to Needles like temps.

Will be a 115 this weekend in Phoenix, Area. Drop down in low 80's overnight. I would assume Needles would be similar or a few degrees warmer. Once the sun goes down you should not have an issue cooling your rig. Remember, it's a dry heat May want to travel from Needles west early in the morn, before the mid afternoon heat.

Enjoy your trip

3x 15 k units is more than enough to chill you to the bone. That said the challenge is in your units insulation and it's ability to keep cold in and heat out.

Having lived and played in the Sonoran Desert for 6+ years where temps can often hit the 120 mark in the shade here is a tip...

Keep all windows closed and shades drawn. Keep door traffic down. Open your awnings for shade. Pray for a cool and rainy day.

I have the same unit and just took my first trip this weekend. All three units do not run at the same time. The middle one which is the whisper unit will run all the time. The living room and master bedroom will cycle back and forth or you can turn off one or the other and it will run all the time. At the end of the day, only two units run all the time.

One of biggest challenges is removing humidity when it comes to cooling. Since Needles is very dry you should not have any issues.

Re-plan your trip so you don't overnight in Needles. Plan it so you can drive across the desert in one day. Or even better, drive it at night.

Extreme Temps

Welcome to the forum.

It seems to me your question is, 'What size generator do I need to run all 3 air conditioners at the same time?' Chris Wendt says only 2 run at a time, so it seems you may need a generator that will handle 2 at a time.

Sorry, but I can't help with your question but I didn't want your question overlooked. Maybe another forum member can help you.

Rigs with 3 ac's are a new development for me. I have heard that there are electronics that alternate the units as has been stated.

I don't think I would be interested in rv'ing anywhere that 3 ac's would not cool it down!

Extreme heat

Your rv is probably set up for 50 amp. 7000w
Generator will give you 58 amps. Which is plenty. But i would just run 2of them, unless they alternate. To get amps....watts devided by120v. On a generator.

It was 90 in Tucson for us but in the 40's at night.
Same for Carlsbad.
Ran the a/ c once

Ran the furnace more than the AC. We were out most of the day and kept the blinds closed and the a/c off
Due to sustained high winds of 40 mph the awning was not an option

I wouldn't mind living in the dessert. Especially if it were a big ol' cherry pie topped with ice cream!
