F350 short bed without slider.

I just ordered a Ford F350 short bed pickup with the Ford 5th wheel hitch package. I plan on ordering an Eagle fifth wheel. Is anyone out there pulling a later model Eagle with the new Ford shortbed without using a slider? I hope this will work.

Not trying to hijack your thread, but I have a Chevy with the 6.5' shortbed. I pull a Eagle SuperLite 28.5 RLS without a slider. The front cap corner indentations and the extended pin box on the trailer help allow for extra tight turns.

It appears that the front cap on the Eagle also has corner indentations, but I don't know if they come with the longer pin box.

Enjoy your new TV and Eagle!!

I just got my Eagle Super Light and got the Reese Revolution option. I don't see that listed as an option on the Eagle though. I am pulling with a 2003 Short bed F250 and with the Reese have zero clearance problems. If you're concerned perhaps as part of the purchase deal you can have the Sidewinder / Airborne-Sidewinder installed which would eliminate any potential clearance issues.

It MAY work as long as you are very very careful. One second of inattention when backing up may cost you a rear window and bodywork.

All I can say is, put it in reverse and crank it hard as someone watches closely. I spent a thousand dollars repairing my cab corner because I thought it would clear. Different truck and different camper though. My guess is you'll be ok but i would certainly check it.
Good Luck

I have a Ford SB Dually that I pull my Designer. I have the 5th Airborne w/ the Siderwinder pinbox. The pinbox is Great as the turn radius is moved back to the tailgate. 5th Airborne is a Reese product. They cost about $1450 at E-Trailer.com. We have gotten our money back time and time again. We have No Worries about parking or Re-Fueling.
Hope this helps Just my $ .02

In a word, no. I tried making a sharp turn when I got lost on a military installation in the dark, and came up on a closed gate. Not much difference, if any between my truck and yours.

Thankfully, the only damage I sustained was plastic trim popping off and a dent in the trim on the trailer.

It will work until you get in a tight spot and have to back up with the wheels cramped hard then the damage begins. It is to easy to forget especially in a stressful or tight situation. like others have told you hook up the truck and back up slow with someone watching and the wheels cramped all the way to the right and left. Don't think that you won't get into a situation like that. Sooner or later it happens. I was lucky when it happened to me. I heard a slight scrapping sound after I had applied the brakes and the front left corner of the fiver was against the cab. I was backing up and watching out the other side to miss a brick wall. BTW I have a 6 1/2 foot bed too. The hitch should be over the rear axle or a little bit ahead of it. I also have a reese slider hitch. I forget to use the lever to slide it back. wish I would have gotten the 5th airborne hitch and pin setup. I have a Designer.

I too just bought an Eagle Superlight with the Reese revolution pinbox option installed by the factory.

With this setup I did not need a special hitch for the 6.5' bed on my Chevy.

I trusted my Jayco dealer - he set up the hitch for me and told me what I did or didn't need. No slider - no expensive hitch. We used a Valley hitch and everything has worked perfectly.

On the way home from the dealer we went to buy a better mattress, and did a 180 in their tiny gravel rear loading area with no problems.

The Reese pinbox pivots at the camper instead of at the hitch.

Check out the video here -

Eagle and short Bed

The Revolution is not offered on the Eagle, my dealer tried, so I opted for the Mor/ryde. I will be getting a slider hitch in the new truck. Thanks for the replies. Truck and 321RLTS both due in mid July.

Reese revolution pinbox is just the re-named 5th airborne sidewinder after Reese bought the Airborne company. My dealer offered the pinbox as an after market item, but way too much $$$$. I removed and reinstall in the driveway. I saved over a 1,000 $$ Dealer was crazy with their pricing. We love this hitch as we have over 12,000 pulling miles on this unit with zero problems. Just my $ .02

Unhappy

A word of advice. The first thing I did when I bought my Eagle 29.5RKS was to crank it hard and put truck in reverse to see the outcome. I was watching for contact with the back window. What I almost didn't catch was the extended pinbox that was 1/2 inch away from contacting the inside of the box rail on my '08 Chev K2500. I literally had over 2 feet before the window would be broken. Because of the configuration of my truck/hitch/pinbox, this problem cannot be alleviated. If I ever damage my cab and window, that will be on a long list of repairs.

Thanks for the heads up on this. Being a newbie to 5ers I will keep this in mind.
