The video was great! I’m one that will sit for hours watching YouTube videos for info on stuff. Watching Big Truck Big RV’s video comparing the Andersen and B&W Companion is one of the reasons I went with the Andersen to begin with. That and the fact I only had a B&W drop in ball without the puck system on the other truck. Whatever I got was going to have to attach to the B&W setup I had and I thought the Andersen was by far the better (lighter) choice.

Now, that I have this new truck with the puck system and have the option to use something that won’t depend on the bed of the truck, I’ve decided to try the B&W Companion. I was expecting the extra weight and bulk to make me grumble and fuss for swapping. It was actually very easy to pull the two pins, pull the top section off, throw four latches, and then pick the base up. There was a definite weight difference but nothing I had to strain with. I didn’t time how long it took to remove or install either one but, I’m going to guess both are fairly close.

Who knows? Once the warmer weather gets here and we start traveling, I may swap back to the Andersen.

"Big Truck Big RV" went back to the B&W just as you are. I think it says a lot about the product...I agree that it's heavy!

Some of these new trucks offer from the factory, a 5th wheel prep package. I'm new to the 5th wheel set up and not sure if this is a bonus, or just a waist of money.

Anyone in the know have an opinion if the factory installed 5th wheel prep package is a favorable option? Any props/cons to having this factory option? Is there any savings down the road having this option? With this option, I guess you just drop a hitch in and go? No aftermarket installation of hardware?

I've also seen some folks put a goose neck adapter on their king pin and tow using the goose neck set up. Any opinions as to why folks use this method? Any pros/cons compared to towing with a conventional 5th wheel hitch. Specifically with a short truck box configuration. Is this advisable with a short bed?

Thank you for any feedback.

Get the prep package.

I have a 2017 gmc 3500 srw that came with the factory installed 5th wheel hitch system and a factory spray bed liner. I did notice you posted in 2015. Just mentioned it for people looking today. GMC installs the Curt hitch.

I am sure someone has responded to this by now, but some of the videos from Andersen show it being used with the MorRyde. The Rota-Flex is the only one not recommended. I personally have the Andersen Ultimate and the MorRyde pinbox and it is a great combination.

His reasons for going back were to free up space in the bed as the B&W occupies less real estate and he was concerned about the extra travel on the landing gear, if I remember right. He liked the Andersen, but wanted more room for other stuff in the bed. I don't have a tool box and don't carry much in the bed so not an issue for me.

The bed liner has not rubbed off, but there is sign of friction.

I only tow less than 10 times a year with most trips about 100 miles. Logest is about 200 miles. If I towed more it could be possible to rub through the liner, maybe..?

Are you torquing the nut to 50 lbs (before and after the fiver is on it) like on the printed instructions, or to 60 ft/lbs like they now recommend. I have a BedRug mat and no rubbing.

I have the factory tow package with a factory sprayed in bed liner and love it. I just invested in the picture frame mount as I had a hitch from my previous truck that I moved over with the $120.00 frame for the puck system.

If you don't like heavy things then look into B&W or Anderson.

Just purchased a Ford F350 DRW. It has the sprayed liner with the 5th wheel prep package. Purchased the BW Companion with the puck system. Easy in, easy out. The bed also had a center hole for a round gooseneck type hitch. When not in use the holes are cover with round rubber covers,
