Fifth Wheel Hitch setup

I have a 2002 GMC 2500HD 4x4 3/4 ton shortbed. I have a B & W Companion setup. I bought the Companion part used and have not adjusted the arms yet that hold the capture plate and jaws. What is the minimum distance above bed rails for the fifth wheel nose. The arms on this hitch are adjustable up and down and horizontally as well. Where it is set now makes the nose of the 5th wheel a little pointed up but allows about 8" above the rails. That is important for turning and dips in the road but equally important I believe is going down the road level. I'm looking for tips for setting up hitch setup. I'm a newbie to fifth wheels and have not towed this yet. Would appreciate any tips. Thanks.

6" on mine as well. Have come close on a few occasions, like when I had to go up and over a railroad track that was about 4' above the CG entrance road, but took it slow and made it OK. If you need to drop the nose down an inch or so to get level, 6 or 7" shouldn't be a problem, IMHO.
