What rubber do you advise for a Jayco 321 RKMS? We had a blow out on I-20.
Plan on getting a whole new set. The blow out was on a Goodyear Marathon, made in China, any advise?

I recently placed my order on the Maxxis tires to swap out Jayco Factory Tomax tires. I've heard A LOT of horror stories regarding blow outs on the Tomax tires and I simply don't want to take a chance. Besides, Discount tires is giving me a trade-in credit for $50 per tire. So my total pocket expense for the new tires is about $350.

I had two Goodyear Marathons blow out just sitting in my driveway over the winter. They are junk, IMHO. Had to remove them two at a time and take to local tire shop, as I couldn't get the 5er there. Got 4 new Maxxis tires, load range E, and have had no problems since. Contacted Maxxis before buying their tires, learned that they are made in a factory in Thailand, but to US standards. Many others report good performance from Maxxis, and I join their chorus.

When we bought our 2011 Pinnacle in June last year it came with Goodyear Marathons on it. Although the tires had less than 400 miles on them I wasted no time replacing them with Maxxis 8008's.

Following a blowout on our former Raptor toy hauler I did quite a bit of research on trailer tires. We were running two year old TowMax tires on the 5'er and always maintained the proper pressure all around. The resulting damage cost over $3,400! Do the research you'll likely find little to no negative information about the Maxxis tires. There is no perfect trailer tire but Maxxis is the best out there at this time.

My Designer came with "E" rated Marathons when purchased in August 2010. I put 3,000 miles on them and worried the entire time. April 2013 they were replaced with Good Year G614's. I feel much better towing now and fortunately my wheels were rated for the extra pressure.

After having our Pinnacle weighted with individual scales on each wheel, we found the left side where the Kitchen, Entertainment Center are such are, had approx. 3,200 lbs. on each wheel (the right side has approx. 2,900 lbs. on each wheel).
When replacing our Goodyear Marathons, we wanted more margin than what another "E" Rated tire provides so we switched to a 3,750 lb. 14 Ply "G" Rated tire.

I switched to the Firestone LT E rated Transforce HT, it is a light truck tire and so far so good. I also put a set of Transforce on my pickup at the same time. LT tires give you the advantage of a higher speed rating so in areas where the speed limit is higher than 65 you can safely do so.

I had the same problem, had one blowout on the Goodyear tire, one was enough, I change all 4 to Maxxis 8008's.

On my last two trailers I looked at the OEM tires as a method of shipping from factory to dealer. Campers intend to take stuff with them when they go camping and the factory only intends to get the camper to the dealer: there in-lies a conflict of goals. Understanding this, I have changed the last two sets of OEM tires within a week of buying the camper......And no blow outs since putting this plan in place.

Next comes manufatures of tires. If you stick with ST tires your choice is China or Maxxis.
Let me think about this for 2 seconds.

One thing that I would definately recommend with getting new tires or as just an upgrade is metal valve stems. I did them on my last camper and it helped tremendously with tire pressure. The rubber stems lose quite a bit of pressure over time.

Maxxis is the largest tire company in the world it's headquarted in Taiwan. Maxxis ST tires are manufactured in Thailand. They are in 170 countries.

Maxxis has never been a USA made tire and then moved to China to save money. It's always been an international company with manufacturing and design centers all over the world.

I don't work for Maxxis but I have researched the issue of ST tires. I used to run Goodyear USA made ST tires. I did run one set of Goodyear China's but the sidewalls began to look funny very soon after I got em.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of Maxxis tires. I think they make the best ATV tire you can buy. I have a set for each of my machines. I just haven't been convinced that they make the single best ST tire. I've had great luck with Carlisle ST tires, and pay $200 less for a set of them.

We ended up with 235/85R 16 on all four.
Sailum tires made in China. They were more expensive than I thought they would be. Wish us luck.
Still would like to be get a tire for the 5th wheel made in the U.S.

X2 on going LT over ST. I believe Excel by Peterson Industries even send their RV's out the factory door with LT tires as a factory upgrade.
