With temperature/thermostat set (no matter at which temperature) it never shuts down (even well above set temperature). Anyone else experience this?

I just digested what you posted....the fire place is on or off..period...with three setting on how much heat. It is NOT controled by the thermostat.

Correct, not controlled by "the" thermostat, but it does have one of its own that should maintain the temp you set it at. IIRC, mine ranges from 68 - 82 in 2* increments. It also "remembers" the last setting, so if it was set high last time used it will try to get the unit to that temp.

The 2012 I traded in only had high, med and low. I need to look at my new one...hope it has the thermostat control.

It has an always on setting and settings @ 62 and 2 degrees up to 82 (11 settings). If I set it at even the 62 it keeps running bringing the temp. up into 72 range.

Has it always done this or just recently? Check to make sure the stat is wired properly. If it's just a stat for heating, it should be two wire, if it's always been like this, check to be sure that the stat is wired specifically for heating only. I've seen two wire stats incorrectly wired causing the fan to continuously run but only fire the furnace when the temperature calls for heat. Look up your stat info for proper wiring and compare it against your actual. If all is good, the stat is likely bad and you need to replace it. They are easy to repair and replace.

Maybe you could try running your ceiling fan in winter mode to circulate the air better.

Mine has a thermostat, it's just a dial with no #'s on it, I just turn the dial slightly til it comes on. Once it reaches that temp the heat goes off, the fireplace 'flames' stay on. It then will cycle on and off as the temp in the rig decreases or increases. It does an amazing job of keeping the rig warm. I love it.

Mine used to rattle also. Used two small felt dots to push between the glass and the frame and have not had a rattle since.

Ours does not have a thermostat. If you turn the heat on, it is set at 72 degrees. It has a timer that you can set in 30 minute increments. It does not cycle on and off, just runs for the set period. You can also run it with the fireplace lights on without heat.

ours has heat settings in increments and cycles the heat accordingly , fireplace lights can be adjusted and it has a timer but I have only been able to figure out how to set the heat settings on the face of the unit not with the remote control by continuing to push the heat button until I get the desired temperature setting

Mine works fine and has a thermostat, that works. Unit shuts off when it reaches desired temp. I can also set it with the timer. For me I had a hard time finding the switch that allowed it to turn on.....it is either the water heater or the fireplace.

Mine is like Ken&Ruth's. The thermostat is very touchy however, a little turn goes a long way.

Well, you learn something new all the time. Just got down there with a flashlight and found buttons on the front. Had been using the remote all the time. You can adjust the temperature from 62 up to 80. I will have to wait until cooler weather and set it and see if it cuts off when it reaches temp and then cuts back on when the temp drops. Maybe we should all read our included paperwork a little better.

Same here, but ours acts weird, a lot like the OP's in a way. Once it's on it never shuts off no matter what the temperature and if you turn it down very carefully until it turns off it never comes back on no matter what the temperature is.
